Mario Ariel Beceiro Hernández, known as "Tito," the 21-year-old whose disappearance in Havana mobilized thousands of Cubans on social media, has been found alive and returned home with his family, as confirmed by his loved ones this Monday.
The case had generated an intense civic search following the disappearance of the young man on Tuesday, May 26, when his only clue was his motorcycle found abandoned in the Los Pocitos area, in the Marianao municipality, to the west of the capital.
The young man's sister, Daniela Beceiro, was the one who confirmed the good news on Facebook with a message filled with relief and gratitude.
"Today I can say that my family breathes a sigh of relief because he is already with us, alive, which is what matters most to us," wrote Daniela.
The young woman also apologized for the delay in informing: "As a family, the situation overwhelmed us, and we wanted to heal together."
Irma Lidia Broek, a close family friend, also shared the news with the message: "The young Mario Ariel Beceiro Hernández is now home, safe and sound with his family."
Broek highlighted the role of collective solidarity: "The solidarity of all of you was essential during these times of great distress."
Daniela Beceiro explicitly thanked the pages that amplified the alert, including La Tijera and CiberCuba Noticias, which helped to bring visibility to the case.
"I never imagined the affection and love that was shown to us," expressed the young man's sister.
The discovery of the abandoned motorcycle had raised alarms among family and friends, who recalled the case of a young man from Artemisa found dead in August 2024 after also disappearing on a motorcycle, which intensified the urgency of the search.
The case of Mario Ariel adds to a recurring pattern in Cuba: in the absence of official alert mechanisms for missing persons, families resort to social media viralization as the only effective tool.
A few weeks earlier, the case of Yanet Soto Castellanos and her baby missing in Havana was also resolved thanks to widespread sharing on social media, on May 13.
Cuban families systematically denounce the lack of effective response from the authorities regarding reports of disappearances, which has turned digital platforms and independent media into the main channels for citizen mobilization in these cases.
"This situation we are experiencing made us realize the importance of the unity of our family and friends," concluded Daniela Beceiro in her message of gratitude.
