A truck with "flammable" signage was involved in a spectacular accident in El Yarey de Vázquez, in the province of Las Tunas, after allegedly getting "tangled" with a manhole, losing the entire front axle and falling from a height of approximately two meters.
The event was reported in the Facebook group "Automobile Accidents in Cuba and Information on the Road" by the contributor Javier Escobar, who indicated that he was unaware of the exact causes of the incident.
"Las Tunas. El Yarey de Vázquez. I don't know the reasons, it got tangled with a sewer, the entire front axle came off and it fell from a height of two meters," Escobar wrote in his post.
No explicit victims were reported, although the report does not rule it out either. It has not been confirmed what substance the vehicle was carrying or if it was empty at the time of the accident, despite having a sign indicating "flammable" painted on the tank.
In Cuba, the transportation of flammable materials on the island is primarily managed by state-owned companies such as CUPET and its subsidiaries.
Las Tunas has a documented history of accidents involving heavy vehicles on its roads, exacerbated by the deterioration of the road infrastructure. In January of this year, an accident involving three vehicles at the curve towards Holguín resulted in 12 injuries, none life-threatening.
Before, in May 2025, a truck loaded with meat products collapsed on a road in Majibacoa, in the same province. In January of that year, a truck crashed into a house near the baseball stadium in Las Tunas, and in April 2024 another vehicle overturned on the Central Highway near the exit towards Holguín.
Nationwide, accidents involving flammable cargo have had fatal consequences. In March 2025, a TransCupet tanker carrying 17,000 liters of alcohol overturned and caught fire in Matanzas, resulting in the death of worker Joaquín Cotera García and leaving another person seriously injured.
