The death of the Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim Díaz, known as Gaspi, has caused shock on social media and among the Spanish-speaking content creator community. The 23-year-old passed away this Sunday alongside five other people after the collision of two helicopters mid-flight in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood, in the west of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Gaspi was traveling in one of the aircraft alongside the American singer Oliver Tree, 32 years old; the Argentine audiovisual director Lucas Vignale; and the Brazilian Lucas Brito Chaves. The pilots of both helicopters, Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsilla, also lost their lives. There were no survivors.
The accident occurred at 8:59 in the morning local time when the two aircraft—one with five occupants and the other with only the pilot—collided in midair and crashed into the parking lot of an electric vehicle dealership on Avenida das Américas. The impact caused a fire that destroyed at least 20 cars.
Authorities reported that identifying the victims has been complex due to the condition of the bodies after the fire. The Civil Police stated that the bodies will undergo forensic examinations, and the investigation has been handed over to the 42nd Police Station and the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), an agency of the Brazilian Air Force.
Gaspi was one of the most popular digital creators in Argentina. With over 2.8 million subscribers on YouTube, he became known for his street interviews filled with absurd humor and his now-famous greeting "buenass." In 2022, he was awarded Youtuber of the Year at the Coscu Army Awards, and in 2025, he expanded his international reach by participating in La Velada del Año V, the event organized by Ibai Llanos in Seville, where he faced off against the Spanish Perxitaa.
Weeks before his passing, he had premiered a new series for the Blender channel titled Gaspi visits your home, one of his most recent projects.
The news triggered an immediate wave of reactions from friends, colleagues, and followers. The streamer Coscu wrote on X: "Rest in peace, Gaspi. The last time we were together, you showed me and excitedly told me how you were improving your habits and taking care of yourself. Life is very unfair."
For his part, AuronPlay expressed on Instagram: "Lately, life seems to be written by one of my greatest enemies. I can't take it anymore. Rest in peace both, I held you in high regard."
Bizarrap, who had collaborated with Lucas Vignale on several audiovisual projects, expressed his sorrow over the tragedy with a brief but powerful message: "There are no words, I just hope you can rest in peace. The pain is immense."
The death of Gaspi and Oliver Tree leaves a profound impact both in the digital world and the music industry. For millions of fans, the news represents the unexpected loss of two figures who had successfully connected with audiences around the globe from very different spaces, but with an immense ability to foster community.
