The discovery of a man's body in the river that runs through Aguilera Street, in the municipal center of Holguín, caused shock among the local residents and sparked an intense reaction on social media. A post by singer Noétt Blanco garnered dozens of testimonies from residents who witnessed the police operation.

According to multiple comments from neighbors, the body was found on Unión Street, between Aguilera and Arias, near the Garayalde market and the Ateneo de Holguín.

A resident who passed by the area confirmed it firsthand: "Yes, it's true, I went by there today and there was police and a lot of people. They said they had found a dead man. That was on Aguilera Street, by where the river runs, it's in Holguín," wrote Manuela Pupo Álvarez in the comments of the post.

The cause of death has not been officially confirmed. A user who claimed to know the victim suggested that he was a man who "drank a lot" and likely slipped and fell into the river while inebriated.

However, another commentator questioned that version: "I don't understand, why did they publish the body in a nylon bag?" asked Ania Tamayo Rodriguez, raising doubts about whether it was an accident or something else.

A user identified the deceased as Mauro Flores, although this information has not been verified by any official source.

The discovery is not an isolated incident. The user Eliedesma Garcia noted that "a few days ago they found a man dead near the mill, and now this one," while Ana Bonet remarked, "Yesterday it was the same, another dead person. Where are the authorities, my God?"

The case also evoked an unresolved precedent: Mary Anne PCarralero recalled the "man they found in the river of the Luz neighborhood, and it was never known what really happened."

The indignation of the neighbors points directly to the priorities of the authorities. "The authorities are focused on monitoring unlicensed motorbike drivers and food vendors. Every day, assaults and acts of vandalism increase. It's not safe to go out," denounced Laydelin Torres Pérez, who also lamented that nightly blackouts force the population to stay indoors as insecurity grows.

This finding adds to a series of violent incidents reported in the province in recent months.

In March 2026, authorities detained suspects in a homicide case at Los Tiempos park in Holguín linked to the theft of an electric motorcycle.

Similarly, in April 2025, a young man was murdered with machetes after leaving a party in Báguanos.

In addition, in December 2024, a man drowned in the Sagua de Tánamo river and his body was found three days later.

Cuba does not publish official crime statistics, which makes it impossible to independently verify the true extent of violence.

Many cases circulate solely through social media, without official confirmation or public judicial follow-up, as appears to be the case with this new discovery on Aguilera Street.

"How sad everything that is happening is. It’s now normal to come across a dead person on the streets of Holguín," summarized Laydelin Torres Pérez, with a statement that reflects the hopelessness of those living in the city.
