The Lumen Field in Seattle hosts this Friday's match between the United States and Australia for the top spot in Group D of the with both teams arriving undefeated after winning their opening games.

The hosts enter the match with high morale after defeating Paraguay 4-1 on June 13 in Los Angeles, in a performance that left the local fans with great expectations.

Folarin Balogun was the standout performer in that debut: he scored three goals in the 31st, 45+5, and 50th minutes, and was named Player of the Match. The scoring had begun earlier with an own goal from Damián Bobadilla in the seventh minute, and Giovanni Reyna completed the tally in stoppage time.

Beyond the result, the team led by Mauricio Pochettino impressed with its intensity, high pressing, and attacking speed, qualities that make it one of the most exciting teams in the tournament. The Argentine coach, in his first experience in charge of a national team since taking the position in September 2024, has not hidden his ambitions: he stated that his goal is to "win the World Cup."

The United States comes first in Group D with three points and a goal difference of +3, and will once again benefit from the massive support of their fans in the stands, a factor that could tip the balance in such an evenly matched game.

Australia, however, does not arrive as a victim. The Socceroos defeated Turkey 2-0 on June 14 in Vancouver with goals from Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe, and they currently sit in second place in the group with three points and a +2 goal difference.

Nestory Irankunda, at just 20 years and 124 days old, became the youngest Australian to score in a World Cup with his goal against Turkey, also setting a record for the Asian Football Confederation.

This is Australia's seventh World Cup participation and sixth in a row, reflecting the strength that Oceania football has achieved over the past two decades. The team's stated goal is to surpass its best historical performances: the Round of 16 they reached in Germany 2006 and Qatar 2022.

The history between both teams favors the Americans, with two victories out of four encounters. The most recent match, a friendly played in October 2025, also ended in an American victory, with a score of 2-1.

Meanwhile, in the other match of Group D, Turkey and Paraguay will face off at Levi's Stadium with no points to their name, adding extra pressure to the Seattle duel: whoever wins this Friday will virtually have one foot in the round of 32.
