Ángel Miguel Alea Casadeval, the broadcaster and teacher affectionately known as "El Profe," passed away this Thursday in Santiago de Cuba at the age of 86, as announced by the station CMKC Radio Revolución.

His death occurred around 5:00 in the morning, leaving a deep void in the radio community of eastern Cuba.

Born in San Luis, Santiago de Cuba, on July 5, 1939, Alea Casadeval dedicated more than six decades of her life to broadcasting, applied linguistics, and training communicators.

His calling was revealed during his adolescence: at just 14 years old, he took his first steps in front of a microphone at a small radio station in his hometown.

From there, he built a career that took him through the studios of Radio Majaguabo and the stations CMKD, CMDH, and CMKT, until he established himself at the leading station CMKC Radio Revolución.

In 1968, he joined the newly inaugurated Santiago channel Tele Rebelde, where he worked as an actor and announcer.

It was the first Cuban television channel with broadcasts originating outside of Havana, and Alea Casadeval was part of its history from the very beginning.

As a trainer, his impact was even more lasting: he guided 17 generations of announcers in applied linguistics for broadcasting, being one of the cornerstones of radio education in the eastern part of the country.

In recognition of this trajectory, UNEAC awarded him the Heredia Plaque at an event held in Santiago de Cuba on the occasion of Radio Broadcasters' Day.

On that occasion, Alea Casadeval stated: "The greatest satisfaction of a broadcaster is to contribute to ensuring that new voices keep alive the tradition of Cuban radio and television, because broadcasting is also a commitment to culture and the people."

Gerardo Hourdayer, who presided over the awarding ceremony, noted that the recognition was "also a tribute to the profession, and a call for young journalism students to learn from the experience of those who have dedicated their lives to the art of words."

The station CMKC emphasized in its note that "at 86 years old, Ángel Miguel Alea Casadeval leaves an irreplaceable void in the Cuban radio universe" and that "his example, his wisdom, and his unmistakable voice will endure in the memory and hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him and learning from him."

His departure adds to a streak of losses that has hit Cuban radio in recent months.

In May 2025, broadcaster Noel Pérez Batista passed away, also from CMKC, at the age of 93. In September of the same year, René Luis Romero Oramas died, the iconic voice of Radio Reloj.

In November, Lilia Rosa López passed away, a broadcaster from Radio Habana Cuba at the age of 92. And in May 2026, Santiago Ramírez Frías died, with over five decades in Cuban radio.

"The voice acting community and the Radio System in Santiago de Cuba are in mourning," concluded CMKC Radio Revolución in its statement.
