The Cuban singer La Diosa dedicated an emotional message on Instagram to her eldest son, Axel, who turned 18 on Thursday. The post overflowed with feelings and was met with hundreds of reactions from her followers.

In the post shared on her Instagram profile, the artist —whose real name is Dianelys Alfonso Cartaya— described the mix of emotions she feels seeing her son become an adult: “Today my son Axel turns 18... and I don’t even know how to explain everything I feel. It seems like just yesterday when I held you in my arms, when you were my little boy and I dreamed of watching you grow up, becoming the good, strong, and brave man you are today.”

The message was much more than a congratulation: The Goddess reaffirmed that motherhood is her deepest identity, above any artistic achievement. "Before being a singer, a working woman, or anything else in this life, I am your mother. And you are one of the biggest reasons I fight every day," she wrote.

The singer also acknowledged that the journey hasn't always been easy, but every decision has been guided by the well-being of her children: "Many times it may not have been easy, but everything I've done has been with you in mind, to give you a future, so that you never lack love, guidance, and a mom who doesn't give up."

Along with words of love, La Diosa gave Axel a piece of advice for this new chapter: "Be a man of values, respect women, take care of your heart, work for what is yours, and never let anyone make you feel less than you are worth."

Axel's 18th birthday comes just a month after his graduation, which La Diosa celebrated with immense pride, highlighting the excellent grades the young man achieved after overcoming the language barrier by joining the U.S. educational system.

The story of Axel is marked by difficult decisions. In August 2022, when he was 14 years old, La Diosa said goodbye to him at the Havana airport to send him to live in Europe, with the aim of protecting him from mandatory military service in Cuba and providing him access to quality education.

Born in Nice, France, Axel grew up speaking French, Italian, and Spanish. When the family emigrated to Miami in early 2023 thanks to humanitarian parole, Axel joined them, and since then La Diosa has documented every milestone in her son's growth, from his adjustment to life in the United States to his graduation and now his coming of age.
