A young woman identified as Grett, known on Instagram as @grett_argil, publicly reported that a man armed with a knife has repeatedly harassed her in the center of Camagüey and stated that the police have not acted effectively despite the complaints filed.
The most recent incident occurred around 11:30 in the morning on Sunday in front of the Puma store on República Street. According to the young woman, the man pulled a knife from his backpack when he saw her passing by.
A friend who was walking behind her decided not to walk on the same sidewalk and later informed her of what had happened.
"Look, Greta, I didn't go through there because you were just passing by, the man said the things he said and pulled a knife out of his backpack," he commented. Other people who were at the scene also claimed to have seen the weapon.
Grett explained that this was not the first time she had experienced a similar situation. In a previous video, she mentioned that the same individual had pursued her and a friend with a knife in the vicinity of the Casino, also during the day. According to her testimony, the man tends to loiter in very crowded areas of downtown Camagüey, such as La Salsa, el Caribe, the Casino, and Republic Street, where he allegedly intimidates particularly women who refuse to give him money.
After the incident, the young woman went to the National Revolutionary Police station located on Avellaneda Street to file a report. However, she claimed that the service was slow and ineffective.
According to their account, although the alleged assailant remained nearby and there were witnesses to the incident, the officers told them to wait their turn. Since the computer system was not working, the report was written by hand, and the process took more than five hours.
"In the end, the response was that they were going to give that person a warning letter," Grett said. By that time, she mentioned, the man had already left the place. When she insisted that he posed a danger to others, she claimed that one of the agents responded that she saw him "everywhere" simply because she was asking him for money.
"That was the result of spending more than five hours at a police station to report this," lamented the young woman, who insisted that it is "a person who is not crazy, but someone who is truly dangerous."
Grett's report quickly went viral on social media and was shared by independent journalist José L. Tan Estrada, who published an alert aimed at the residents of Camagüey.
"This is the individual who harasses, assaults, and threatens people with a knife in Camagüey, primarily women. He almost always acts on República Street. There have been several reports against this guy, and the police do nothing," the communicator wrote on Facebook.
Following that publication, dozens of users claimed to have had similar experiences with the same individual at various locations in the city center, including the vicinity of the Casino, Maceo Street, the Triana Bridge, and the recreational area in front of the headquarters of the Hermanos Saíz Association.
One of the commentators claimed that the man "lifts up his shirt and has a knife" to intimidate even in areas frequented by children. Another suggested, without providing evidence, that it could be a person with untreated paranoid schizophrenia.
Among the reactions, there were also many criticisms of the authorities' response. Some users pointed out that the police tend to act quickly in cases related to political dissent, while neglecting reports of violence and citizen insecurity.
The case takes place in a context of growing concern for public safety in Cuba. According to the Cuban Citizen Audit Observatory, 2,833 verified crimes were documented in 2025, an increase of 115% compared to 2024 and 337% compared to 2023.
In Camagüey, several violent incidents involving knives have recently been reported. In April of this year, a woman was left in critical condition after being stabbed near the Train Terminal, marking the second such attack in that area within less than a week.
Hours after publishing her report, Grett stated that the man was involved in another incident and warned the city residents to exercise extra precautions.
