Shakira can't believe it, and neither can her fans. The Colombian artist celebrated in grand style that "Dai Dai," her official song for the 2026 World Cup alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy, reached the number one spot on Spotify's Global Songs chart on June 30, during its sixth week on the charts.

The artist shared her excitement with a message on Instagram that is already making waves around the world: "Pinch me. 'Dai Dai' reached number one on the global Spotify chart and I'm still trying to process it. Thank you for bringing it to the top. Forever grateful."

The leap was spectacular: from seventh place to first in just one week, with 31.5 million streams outside of the United States, enough to also top the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. This achievement makes her the first artist to place an official World Cup song at the top of that chart since its inception in 2020, surpassing the fourth position that "Dreamers" by Jung Kook reached during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The phenomenon doesn't stop on Spotify. The official music video on YouTube has already surpassed 300 million views and the song leads the digital sales charts on iTunes in over 56 countries. The accumulated success propelled Shakira to over 99 million monthly listeners on Spotify, a historic record that no Latina female artist has achieved before.

In a video released alongside the announcement, the singer went beyond the written message and dedicated it directly to those who have supported her from day one: "I want to thank all my fans who have been, I know, pushing so hard since the first day 'Dai Dai' came out to help this song reach number one. I owe it to you and only to you."

And he added: "You don’t know how much this excites me, you don’t know how happy we all are here celebrating this number one. We have worked so much, very hard to achieve it, but you have been the real stars."

“Dai Dai” is the fourth song that Shakira has associated with a World Cup, a relationship that began in Germany 2006 with “Hips Don't Lie,” continued with “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” in South Africa 2010, and followed with “La La La” in Brazil 2014.

The song fuses Latin pop with Nigerian afrobeat and pays tribute to football legends like Pelé, Maradona, Messi, and Mbappé, among others. Its royalties are directed to the FIFA-Global Citizen Education Fund, with a goal of 100 million dollars.

Shakira inaugurated the World Cup on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City in front of more than 87,000 spectators, and the next major event is already marked on the calendar: she is set to co-headline the halftime show of the final on July 19 alongside Madonna and BTS.
