On Sunday, a historic day unfolded in the : England defeated Mexico 3-2 at the Estadio Azteca, and Norway eliminated Brazil with a resounding 2-1, marking the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

At the Azteca, the Three Lions gave the Tri no time to react. Jude Bellingham scored two goals in just 98 seconds, the third fastest double in World Cup history, matching Maradona as the only player to achieve this feat in that stadium.

Julián Quiñones narrowed the gap before halftime to keep Mexican hopes alive, but the second half brought an unexpected turn: the expulsion of Jarell Quansah left England with ten men and seemed to open the door for a comeback.

However, the team led by Javier Aguirre could not take advantage of the numerical superiority.

Harry Kane scored a penalty to make it 3-1 and practically seal the match, although Raúl Jiménez answered back from the spot to establish the final score of 3-2.

Mexico, arriving at the match as the undefeated leader of Group A with seven points and coming off a victory against Ecuador in the round of 16, could not find the equalizer despite having a numerical advantage for a significant part of the second half.

The other major story of Sunday unfolded at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Norway defeated Brazil and eliminated the five-time world champions in what is shaping up to be the most shocking result of the tournament.

Without Lucas Paquetá, who is injured, the Canarinha opted for an offensive strategy that met with a monumental performance from goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, who saved a penalty from Bruno Guimarães in the first half and kept a clean sheet at crucial moments.

Erling Haaland was the standout player of the match with a brace in the 79th and 90th minutes, both goals assisted by Andreas Schjelderup, who had come off the bench.

Neymar scored from the penalty spot in the 100th minute, but the gesture came too late to prevent a defeat that shook the football world.

With those seven goals in the tournament, Haaland matches Messi and Mbappé at the top of the race for the Golden Boot.

Norway, which was returning to the World Cup after a 28-year absence, has reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup for the first time in its history.

England and Norway will face each other on July 11 in Miami for a spot in the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup, in a match that promises to be one of the most exciting of the round.
