A video published on TikTok by the Cuban Daniela Lodeiro became a viral phenomenon, showcasing the almost untouched beauty of Playa La Boca, in Puerto Padre, Las Tunas province, in northern Cuba.
In just a few hours, the recording accumulated over 242,900 views, 16,200 likes, 533 comments, and 2,135 shares, figures that reflect the impact it had on the Cuban community both on and off the island.
In the video description, Lodeiro wrote: "La Boca has a charm that is hard to explain. Its houses by the sea tell stories, its people always welcome you warmly, and its food never disappoints. Sometimes I imagine all the potential this place would have with more opportunities."
The images showcased white sands, crystal-clear waters, and a serene atmosphere that left thousands of viewers speechless, many of whom confessed they had never heard of that corner of Cuba.
"I never imagined there could be a place like this in Cuba," wrote one of the users in the comments, a reaction that was echoed in various forms throughout the section.
Others expressed astonishment mixed with a genuine question: if that paradise exists on the island, why do so few people know about it?
Among those who did recognize it, nostalgia was the dominant feeling. "I remember my beach from childhood so well, that is the beach of the tuneros," wrote one user, while another simply lamented: "Puerto Padre, how much I miss you."
An occasional visitor vividly recalled a culinary experience: "I once went to Cuba on vacation, and we stopped there, where they made me a lobster that I still remember the taste of."
There were no shortage of comments that mixed admiration for the landscape with pain over the country's situation. "What a shame, my country, that they have it like this, such beautiful beaches," wrote one person, while another reflected, "I've always thought that we leave our country without even knowing it completely."
Some users expressed hope that one day Cuba would have the freedom needed for places like that to reach their full potential. Daniela Lodeiro herself responded to one of those comments: "Amen, I hope to see that change soon."
The phenomenon of Cubans showcasing unknown corners of the island on TikTok has become recurrent in recent years, always eliciting the same mix of reactions: amazement at a beauty that many were unaware existed, nostalgia from those who left it behind, and sorrow for a country that, according to its own inhabitants, has not been able to harness the gifts nature has bestowed upon it.
