"I went a month without having sex with my girlfriend." With that phrase, a Cuban nursing student summarized the impact of witnessing a childbirth during his hospital internship, in a video that has gone viral among students and medical professionals in Cuba.

The reel was published by Leonardo Sánchez, who shares content on Instagram under the username @leonardosanshez and presents himself as "Future Nurse." In the recording, he humorously recounts the reactions he elicited from his colleagues during the rotation in the gynecology and obstetrics service.

According to reports, during these internships, students stay in the delivery room and witness the entire process of care for pregnant women.

At the end of the day, she assures, the opinions varied greatly.

"The girls said they were never going to give birth, that it was a dirty thing, and that now they understood all the work women go through," she comments with laughter.

But, according to him, some of his male colleagues also did not come through the experience unscathed.

"No, my son, when I left the delivery room, I went a month without having sex with my girl," he recalls one of his friends confessed.

Leonardo's reaction was immediate: "It traumatizes you."

Immediately afterward, he adds a humorous touch to the comment: "Not that bald, either."

At the end of the video, he invited other medical and nursing students to share their experiences of that same rotation.

An avalanche of experiences

The post generated dozens of comments from students and professionals who stated that they felt identified.

"Eyes that saw me leave never saw me return," wrote a user.

Another summed up his experience in a blunt phrase: “The gynecology rotation is the worst thing that exists on the face of the Earth.”

One of the most striking comments was from an internet user who claimed to be the very partner that Leonardo mentioned in the video.

However, not all experiences were negative.

A student stated that the rotation turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of the entire course.

"I just moved from fourth to fifth year and I can't wait to rotate in obstetrics and gynecology again. Watching the children being born has been the most beautiful thing in the world."

There were also criticisms

The video also sparked a debate about the care received by pregnant women in some Cuban hospitals.

A user stated that what impacted her the most was not the childbirth itself, but rather the way some patients were treated, according to her experience.

"I was traumatized. They treat women like animals, and when the child had to come out, I was frozen," she wrote.

Other comments focused on academic aspects. A student corrected the content creator by noting that the rotation in gynecology and obstetrics corresponds to a different year than the one mentioned in the video.

The profile of @leonardosanshez, which has around 10,000 followers, typically shares content about the training of nursing students, hospital shifts, multiple job holdings, and the everyday experiences of healthcare staff in Cuba.

The reel has garnered hundreds of reactions and dozens of comments. One of the most popular summed up, in jest, the impression left by the story: "The best contraceptive method."
