A Cuban nurse sparked intense debate on social media after sharing a humorous video in which he claims he decided to "get back" at a patient who wouldn't stop criticizing the conditions of the hospital where they were both located.

The protagonist, identified on Instagram as @leonardosanshez, shared that the young woman, around 19 or 20 years old, was admitted with inflammation; however, according to his account, she spent a good part of the time complaining about the state of the healthcare facility.

"He arrives complaining, not about the pain, but about the conditions of the hospital," the reel begins.

The nurse explains that both he and his colleagues tried to make him understand that the deterioration of the hospital was beyond their responsibilities.

"We are here to take care of you," they assured him in response.

However, she claims that the patient continued to protest until her patience was exhausted.

"She took my pins out," she comments with laughter.

"Give it all to me."

According to their account, they decided not to respond any further and went to review the young woman's medical history.

There he found that he had been prescribed an intramuscular injection of penicillin.

"Give it all to me, because I’m the one who is going to inject her," he remembers having said to another nurse.

The video then recreates the patient's reaction during the administration of the medication.

“Oh, oh, no, tita... hold on, hold on,” mimics the nurse, while adding that a friend of the young woman could only exclaim, “Wow, wow.”

The reel concludes with a phrase that encapsulates the humorous tone of the post:

"Don't get on the wrong side of a nurse, my brother."

Hundreds of comments

The video garnered hundreds of reactions and nearly a hundred comments, many of them written by healthcare workers who stated that they felt identified with the scene.

"This is the nurse I need on my shift team," wrote a user.

Another professional commented, "Here is a nurse, and I also use the same method. Never make an enemy of the nurse."

Among the responses, there were also comments from people defending healthcare workers in light of the constant criticisms they receive regarding the conditions of hospitals.

"I understand you perfectly because I work in a hospital, and often people take it out on us when it doesn't depend on us," wrote another internet user.

The background of the hospital crisis

Beyond the humorous tone of the video, the narrative brings to the forefront the deterioration of the Cuban healthcare system and the everyday tension faced by doctors and nurses.

The author himself acknowledges during the recording the precarious conditions of the hospitals, although he insists that the healthcare personnel are not responsible for that situation. The Cuban healthcare system operates with barely 30% coverage of the basic medicine supply, a figure acknowledged by the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, before the National Assembly in July 2025.

The video also reflects a common reality in Cuba: many nurses turn to multiple jobs and long working hours to supplement salaries that are insufficient in the face of the cost of living, in a healthcare system further impacted by the departure of thousands of professionals abroad.
