Target recalled over 211,000 pairs of children's sandals from its private label Cat & Jack following a warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regarding a serious risk of choking or death for small children.
The affected product is the sandal model Sequerah, in beige, featuring two raffia straps, gold buckles, and decorative plastic pearls. The issue lies in the fact that those pearls may detach from the footwear and be ingested by children, a concern that the CPSC officially classified as "risk of serious injury or death."
The recall, announced on Friday, July 18, covers units sold at Target stores and on target.com between January and May 2026, in sizes 5T to 12T, priced at $22.
Before issuing the alert, Target had received 23 reports of pearls coming off the footwear. Although none of those cases resulted in injuries, the CPSC determined that the potential risk was sufficient to order the immediate recall of approximately 211,000 units distributed.
Authorities urge parents and caregivers to take immediate action
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled sandals, keep them out of reach of children, and contact Target for a full refund," states the official notice published on the retailer's website.
The return can be made at any Target store or by mail using a prepaid label provided by the company. Those who purchased the product online can call 1-800-591-3869, and those who bought it in-store can call 1-800-440-0680, both available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time.
This recall is not an isolated incident for the Cat & Jack brand. According to the official CPSC alert, the assigned recall number is 26-629, which reflects the formal coordination process between the manufacturer and the regulatory agency.
Target's children's line accumulates a history of safety alerts
In 2022, Cat & Jack pajamas were recalled for not meeting federal flammability standards. In 2020 and 2021, baby garments were removed due to a risk of choking and laceration from fasteners that detached.
This month, Target also recalled approximately 1 million children's water bottles from the same brand — adorned with Disney, Paw Patrol, and Bluey characters — due to lead levels in the paint that were eight times higher than the federally allowed limit. The bottles were sold exclusively at Target from August 2025 to March 2026.
The article numbers of the affected sandals range from 093-11-3106 to 093-11-3113, corresponding to sizes 5T to 12T.
Parents with questions about whether their product is included in the recall can check directly on the Target website or contact the CPSC.
