This Easter Sunday, Florida residents should plan their outings carefully: the retail landscape is quite varied, with supermarkets, stores, and shopping centers adjusting their hours or closing entirely for one of the most important religious holidays of the year.

Although Easter is not a federal holiday in the United States, many retailers close or reduce operations due to religious and cultural traditions. The Catholic Church has a total of 61.8 million members across the country, approximately 20% of the population according to the U.S. Religion Census of 2020, which explains the significance of this date for commerce.

Among the supermarkets that will remain closed all day are Publix, Costco, Target, Aldi, and Sam's Club.

Publix, Florida's most iconic chain, upholds this tradition since its founding: the company explains on its official site that it closes on Easter so that its employees can spend time with their families.

Department stores and clothing retailers such as Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenney, TJ Maxx, and Lowe's will also be closing.

In contrast, Walmart and Winn-Dixie will open at their regular hours, just like Trader Joe's, The Fresh Market, and Sprouts Farmers Market.

The Latin chains Sedano's, Presidente Supermarket, and Milam's Markets will also keep their doors open, a constant during this holiday season for the large Hispanic community in South Florida, and a key option for those looking to stock up without interruption during the festivities.

Whole Foods Market will primarily operate from 8 AM to 8 PM, although some stores will close at 6 PM.

BJ's Wholesale Club will be open from 8 AM to 6 PM, and Price Choice Supermarket will keep some locations open until 2 PM.

CVS and Walgreens pharmacies will also be open, although CVS may have limited hours at some locations.

Other stores that will be open this Sunday include Home Depot, IKEA, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and 7-Eleven, convenient options for anyone needing to make last-minute purchases.

Shopping centers: which ones are opening and which ones are closing

As for the shopping centers, five will open their doors with special hours: Aventura Mall from 11 AM to 8 PM, Bayside Marketplace from 11 AM to 9 PM, Dolphin Mall from 11 AM to 8 PM, The Falls from 11 AM to 7 PM, and Sawgrass Mills from 11 AM to 8 PM.

In contrast, Broward Mall, Coral Square Mall, Dadeland Mall, Miami International Mall, Southland Mall, and Westland Mall will remain completely closed.

The Brickell City Centre will operate partially, with stores closed but restaurants and the cinema open. Government offices and many public services will also be closed this Sunday, even though Easter is not listed as a holiday in the official calendars.

Residents are advised to check the specific hours of each branch before heading out, as they may vary by location.

As noted by Telemundo 51, many supermarket chains, retail stores, and pharmacies will close their doors to the public, and others will operate on reduced hours, despite not being a federal holiday.
