The profile of Facebook Cazador Cazado, identified as aligned with the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in Holguín, published an update this Friday about the shooting that occurred in the early hours of July 12 at the restaurant Los Hermanos, in the locality of Floro Pérez, municipality of Gibara, reportedly involving the Cuban-American Yaudier Aguilera Monert.
The main update is the acknowledgment of a fourth injured person, identified as Rider Luis Sánchez, whose name had not been mentioned in the previously released information. The publication was limited to wishing him a speedy recovery and did not provide details about the nature of his injuries. So far, Cuban authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the case.
The official profile also expanded on its version of the police response during the incident. It explained that an officer from the Revolutionary National Police (PNR), who lives across from the establishment and was off duty, immediately rushed over upon hearing the shots allegedly fired by Aguilera Monert.
The post argued that the agent's quick intervention prevented more serious consequences and responded to those who, according to the author, had criticized the alleged inaction of the police after the shooting.
However, the comments generated by the publication revealed that many doubts remain about how the events actually occurred.
Several users claim that the Cuban-American may have been the victim of an attempted robbery before firing and assert that he was attacked by several individuals armed with machetes.
Others contend that the weapon used was not a .38 caliber revolver, as initially indicated by Cazador Cazado, but rather a pellet gun or a homemade weapon. There are also claims that Aguilera himself was injured during the altercation (supposedly with knives).
None of those claims have been independently verified or confirmed by the authorities.
Other participants in the debate, on the contrary, supported the police action and deemed it unjustifiable for the suspect to carry a firearm or any other type of weapon in a public establishment.
The update for Cazador Cazado comes after the independent platform 'Nio Reporting a Crime' warned that some elements of the narrative spread by the official profile contrasted with testimonies received directly by that citizen media, which stated that it would continue to verify the sequence of events.
At this moment, the MININT has not released an official statement confirming the final number of injured, clarifying the circumstances that led to the confrontation, or providing information on the charges the detainee will face.
The absence of an institutional version leaves open questions about one of the most discussed episodes of violence in Holguín and Miami in recent weeks.
