Daniela Escarra, wife of Cuban comedian Eddy Ceballos -creator of the satirical channel Despingovery Channel-, published several open letters on Facebook, in which she described her husband as a political prisoner and demanded his immediate release, 50 days after his arrest without the case having reached a hearing.
In her Sunday afternoon post, Escarra was straightforward: "Unjustly detained. Today a political prisoner because someone is determined to cause harm. Lately, my days consist of this—letters, meetings with lawyers, hours spent waiting for a call, trips back and forth from the prison, waiting without answers..."
In another post, Daniela highlights the impact that Eddy's confinement has on the life of the couple's young daughter.
"The hardest thing has been looking our daughter in the eyes and not knowing what to say. How do I explain to her that her dad still hasn’t come home? How do I tell her that every day she asks about him and all I can say is 'soon,' without knowing when that will be? Who can give a little girl back the time that is being taken from her with her father?" she questioned.
In a post from Friday, July 17, Escarra warned that the silence of the majority in the face of injustices only benefits those who refuse to provide explanations, and urged to continue sharing Eddy's case on social media.
"I am convinced that there is an attempt to turn Eddy into an example to send a message of fear to others. If expressing ideas or making jokes ends up instilling fear in an entire society, it is a reality that deserves to be questioned."
Ceballos wasarrested on June 1 in the Diez de Octubre municipality, Havana, during a Security of the State operation, days after publishing a video in which he explored an abandoned military facility featuring Soviet missiles from the 1960s, radars, and Cold War bunkers.
The regime initially accused him of "invasion of military property," a charge that the organization Cubalex reported as nonexistent in the current Cuban Penal Code or in the Military Penal Code.
Subsequently, the charge was reclassified as "disclosure of secrets concerning State Security" (Article 116, paragraph 3), prosecutable in a military court with penalties ranging from 10 to 30 years, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.
Ceballos's situation has progressively worsened during his confinement.
On June 17, his mother Marieta Pérez Alfaro reported that he was physically assaulted while in detention.
On July 11, the regime transferred him at night from the Combinado del Este to the interrogation center of State Security known as "100 y Aldabó," a maneuver that deliberately prevented a scheduled family visit.
On July 14, the family managed to see him briefly and confirmed a noticeable physical deterioration: the young man appeared much thinner.
In his letters, Escarra summarizes the family's plea: "How much more does this family have to endure? How much longer do we have to wait? Enough already."
The channel's cameraman, Christian Rodríguez Riverón, was also arrested weeks later and faces espionage charges; he is being held at "El Reloj Club" in Boyeros, Havana.
The detention of Ceballos is part of a rising pattern of repression against digital creators in Cuba: in January 2026, 69 arbitrary arrests were recorded, a 430% increase compared to January 2025.
Escarra concluded his publications with an unequivocal demand: "We do not ask for privileges. We demand transparency. We demand answers. And, above all, we demand justice for Eddy."
