The President of the United States, Donald Trump, celebrated on Monday the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup and stated that the tournament was, "by far," the safest and most spectacular in history.
In a message posted on his Truth Social profile, the president described the World Cup as a "spectacular success" and thanked all the individuals and institutions involved in its organization.
Trump particularly highlighted the work of the U.S. law enforcement, which he credited with a crucial role in the security of the championship.
"I want to thank everyone involved, but particularly our great law enforcement forces," wrote the president.
According to Trump, the respect for the agents and their "love for our country" allowed the tournament to become "the safest and most spectacular World Cup in history, by a wide margin."
The leader also acknowledged the work of Andrew Giuliani, the White House coordinator for the World Cup and son of former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, whom he described as "young and dynamic."
In his message, he reserved special praise for the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, for having taken the competition to a level that, he claimed, few considered possible.
"Few people will ever achieve what he has done by elevating the World Cup to a level that no one thought possible," Trump noted before congratulating all the participants in the organization.
Trump ended his message with a general congratulation: "Congratulations to everyone!"
The statements come one day after the final held at the New York/New Jersey stadium, where Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 and claimed the title.
Trump participated alongside Infantino in the award ceremony and in the presentation of the trophy to the Spanish national team.
The 2026 World Cup, jointly organized by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, was the first with 48 teams and 104 matches.
