A resident of Holguín now living in Miami returned to Cuba this Tuesday after four years and three months of absence, experiencing a reunion that broke the hearts of those who witnessed it: screams, inconsolable tears, and hugs that encapsulated years of separation, all captured in a video posted on TikTok by the user @elpelvico0512.
The clip, nearly three minutes long, opens with a narration that describes the pain of those who emigrate without knowing when they will return: "carrying a suitcase full of dreams, I left far away to a place, whatever it may be, for the family."
The voice in the video also evokes his mother, his children, and his wife: "my old lady who, amidst tears, gave me a strong hug, take care, she said, my children, my wife, those people from the neighborhood."
Then comes the hardest confession: "Honestly, I don't know if God will grant me the joy of returning. The truth is that it hurts so much not to see my children; being here is not for everyone, it's not as easy as it seems."
The moment of reunion at the airport encapsulates all that accumulated weight in a single sentence heard through tears: "Four years and three months without coming to Cuba, look at the children, the grandchildren who don't know each other."
Some voices try to hold back the overwhelming emotion: "Come on, go ahead, come on, man, stay strong, what's going on, he doesn't even know the..." unable to finish the sentence.
Another voice in the video points out a detail that summarizes the drama of thousands of Cuban families: "he even left the kids when they were little when he left."
Similar scenes have been repeated in Cuban airports with a frequency that reflects the magnitude of the exodus. Yali returned to Cuba after four years and two months on June 13, generating shouts and tears that garnered almost 710,000 views on TikTok.
On July 3, a Cuban father returned after four years and his son reacted with a spontaneous "No way!" upon seeing him, in a clip that surpassed 24,000 views.
In June, Pedro Solano embraced his mother in Cuba after 20 years of absence, in another video that touched the diaspora.
The phenomenon is not casual: since 2022, more than a million Cubans have left the island, leaving behind entire families in all provinces of the country, including Holguín, one of the areas with the greatest emigration tradition to the United States.
The Frank País International Airport in Holguín operates between 55 and 60 international flights weekly from Miami and other cities, becoming one of the most frequent venues for these reunions that are stirring social media.
The video by @elpelvico0512 concludes with a phrase that encapsulates the feelings of those who emigrate and those who wait: "this is a strange feeling, but I'm looking for my own, give me strength, Lord, because there is a sense of emptiness."
