Cuban authorities seized cocaine concealed in two packages of powdered soy milk that arrived from abroad through the cargo terminal of the Havana International Airport.
The discovery was announced this Wednesday by Wiliam Pérez González, First Deputy Chief of the General Customs of Cuba, who posted images of the operation and emphasized the joint efforts of Cuban Customs and the anti-drug agency.
"Cocaine hidden in two packages of milk was detected in a shipment sent from abroad at the cargo terminal of Havana Airport," he emphasized.
The drug was concealed inside two containers of the brand Nutra, marketed as "Soy Drink Powder," a product with an innocuous appearance whose white powder content made it easy to hide the illicit substance.
According to the official statement, the seizure was the result of the "systematic work" of customs and the anti-drug agency, as well as the "timely and effective analysis of information and applied techniques," emphasized the official.
The authorities did not disclose the exact amount of cocaine seized or the country from which the shipment was sent.
No detainees were reported in connection with the case, which raises questions about the recipient of the package and the network behind the attempted drug smuggling.
The technique of concealing drugs in powdered food products—such as milk, flour, or supplements—is a well-known method in drug trafficking, as the appearance and texture of the product make visual detection difficult and can deceive inspectors without specialized equipment.
This new detection occurs less than a week after the Customs of Cuba seized cocaine hidden under the soles of the feet and inside a pair of sneakers from a passenger who arrived at José Martí International Airport in Havana.
The photographs from the seizure displayed black Nike Air Force-style sneakers with the insoles removed, two packages wrapped in black tape, and hands wearing green surgical gloves handling the evidence.
Also, less than two weeks ago, more than 10 kilograms of liquid cocaine disguised in shampoo, conditioner, and keratin were seized at this same airport.
The seized products included one-liter bottles of the brands "Blow & Bliss" Keratin line and "Coco," which contained the liquid drug.
