A group of dolphins put on a natural show at Navarre Beach in northwest Florida, playing and leaping among the large waves created by tropical storm Bertha.
The images were posted this Wednesday by the Facebook profile Beautiful Moments Photography by BeBe, which humorously dubbed the animals as the “Air Jordans of Navarre Beach” due to the height of their jumps.
"Let Bertha come!" added the profile while sharing the sequence, in which several dolphins emerge from the water and seem to take advantage of the strength of the waves to propel themselves.
The Florida meteorologist Matt Devitt also shared the images on Facebook and highlighted the curious behavior of the animals.
"The tropical storm Bertha is creating large waves along the Panhandle of Florida (the northwestern part of the state), and the dolphins love it! This is Navarre Beach, where winds have momentarily reached gusts exceeding 40 mph," wrote Devitt.
The scene quickly went viral due to the contrast between the raging sea and the leaping dolphins, which transformed the dangerous waves into an unexpected spectacle off the Florida coast for a brief moment.
Bertha made landfall on Wednesday in southeastern Louisiana with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and continued moving west, near the shores of Louisiana and Texas.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that the swell generated by Bertha will continue to spread along the northern Gulf coast and could lead to hazardous maritime conditions and potentially deadly rip currents.
Although the images of the dolphins are striking, authorities advise against entering the sea in the affected areas and recommend respecting local warnings about elevated surf and dangerous currents.
