According to the report from El Nuevo Herald, Berterame collided in the air with the Bolivian defender from Montreal, Efraín Morales, and fell seemingly lifeless onto the grass. Colombian Brayan Vera immediately called for medical assistance upon seeing the player's condition, and after several minutes of treatment on the field, the forward was taken off on a stretcher and transported by an ambulance that entered the playing area.
The coach of Inter Miami, Guillermo Hoyos, tried to ease the concerns after the match: "At this time, he is recovering, he is fine, and he is aware. His family is informed about everything. They are calm. The most important thing is that he is well, and he is well now."
“We were alarmed at first because the impact was very strong,” the coach added, confirming that Berterame was at a clinic in Montreal undergoing tests.
The club's medical report later stated that the player sustained injuries to his left shoulder and nose, spent the night under observation at the Montreal General Hospital, and has since been discharged.
The only goal of the match came as a result of the foul that caused Berterame's injury. The Uruguayan Luis Suárez converted the penalty in a Panenka style in the 81st minute, extending his streak to six goals in the last three matches and reaching nine goals in the MLS season.
Casemiro, 34 years old, joined Inter Miami as a free agent after not renewing his contract with Manchester United. His transfer to Inter Miami was surrounded by controversy, as MLS opened an investigation for possible tampering since LA Galaxy held the discovery rights to the Brazilian. However, both clubs reached an agreement before the deal was finalized.
In his debut, the midfielder controlled the tempo in the midfield throughout the match and created one of the first scoring opportunities for his team.
Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul were absent again, marking their second consecutive absence following their participation in the World Cup.
