A doctor with nearly three decades of practice at the Hospital de Morón in Ciego de Ávila, posted a strong critique of the Cuban regime on Facebook, denouncing the inability of the working people to survive on the fruits of their labor.
Juan Carlos Villares addressed his message directly to the National Assembly of People's Power, whose seventh ordinary session of the X Legislature was held precisely on this Wednesday and Thursday at the Convention Palace in Havana.
In his publication, the physician emphasizes that the priority must be to address "the inability of a working people to live off the fruits of their labor" and denounces "the greed of a sector that enriches itself scandalously at the expense of the needs of an entire people, all without law or order."
Villares warns the Cuban Parliament that if it does not listen to "the feelings and anxieties of this people, it loses the historic opportunity to be credible" and that ignoring this reality amounts to "discrediting our democracy" and "burying our trust in the institutions."
The doctor demands institutional consistency: "We must hold accountable for every law passed and call to account those responsible for the violations. I am not asking for anything different than being consistent."
The post gathered dozens of comments from Cuban citizens who supported his words.
A user identified as Clarisa Santiesteban described him as "wise and courageous" and dedicated "applause to that physician."
Rosa Salgado wrote that "your timely words and impeccable analysis demonstrate that you are a man of the people who suffers from the same economic limitations and the inertia of those in power."
For his part, Eridan González Velázquez pointed out that "many of those deputies are not even known by the communities they supposedly represent" and that the laws "are approved unanimously," something he described as "impossible and abnormal."
A commentator identified as Rolando Martin Torres was more direct in his response to the doctor: "Holding anyone accountable is impossible when living in a dictatorship. We live under the rule of a group that came to power through lies and force."
Dr. Villares' criticism comes at a time when the regime announced to the Assembly cuts of over 92,000 positions across four ministries, a measure that many Cubans see as inadequate given the scale of the crisis.
In that same parliamentary session, the regime again postponed the municipal delegate elections to 2027, while ordinary Cubans continue to face shortages of food and medicine, prolonged blackouts, and delays in salary payments.
The case of Villares is not isolated: days earlier, a Cuban doctor publicly denounced the conditions of the medical missions, against a backdrop of increasing exodus of healthcare professionals and deterioration of the healthcare system.
