Tomás Torres, the Cuban actor who brought to life the beloved character "El Cartero" in the series Vivir del Cuento, is currently working in the kitchen of Pinecrest Bakery, a Cuban-American bakery chain in Miami, and performs on stage on weekends at Guayaba Restaurant.
Torres himself confirmed it in a video published by Pinecrest Bakery on Instagram, where he shared his journey from the screens of Cuban television to the kitchens of South Florida.
"In Cuba, he was an actor in one of the biggest and most beloved programs on Cuban television, which was Vivir del Cuento. There, he played a character who was the postman, always bringing both good and bad news," the actor recalled in the video.
Torres has been living in the United States for three years and claims to be happy with his new life, which combines working in the kitchen with his artistic performances.
"I have been here in the United States for three years, and I am very happy because it has given me the opportunity to cook and also to perform my shows, which I am doing at Guayaba Restaurante," he declared.
Regarding the team around him at the bakery, the actor was emphatic: "I feel really happy with the group; they help a lot, they help a lot, I have to say it from the bottom of my heart."
Pinecrest Bakery presented him as an artist who "prepares every dish with heart" and emphasized that his story proves that "true talent never fades; it simply finds new ways to inspire."
Vivir del Cuento was the most popular series on Cuban television, aired by Cubavisión from September 14, 2008, to September 16, 2024, with 19 seasons and 516 episodes.
The case of Torres adds to a trend that has been recurring in recent years among the cast members of the series. Andy Vázquez, who played Facundo, has settled in Miami since 2019, while Omar Franco, the popular Ruperto, emigrated to the United States in July 2021.
More recently, Marlon Pijuán, who played Isidoro, shared details about his arrival in the U.S. in October 2024, and Wilber Gutiérrez, the beloved Chacón, arrived in the North American country on January 9, 2025.
The post from Pinecrest Bakery garnered over 29,000 reactions and 371 comments, reflecting the affection that the Cuban public holds for the actors of the series that humorously portrayed the daily struggles of life on the island for years.
