The police in Matanzas arrested a man and recovered stolen equipment in Humberto Álvarez, a town in the municipality of Cárdenas, following the theft of two computer towers and six power supplies from a home in the area.
According to the statement released by the page «Con Todos La Victoria» —the official channel of the Ministry of Interior in Matanzas—, the thieves broke into the garage door of the house to take the equipment. After the inquiries, the investigators located the alleged perpetrator at his own home.
The detained individual was identified as Rubén Rodríguez González. During the search of his home, agents recovered all of the stolen items, including power supplies from the brands MEISHILE S-480-48 and Autonics SPB-A120-24, manufactured in China. All goods were returned to their rightful owner.
The case arises amid a sustained wave of thefts in Cárdenas and the rest of the province of Matanzas during 2026, where electronic equipment and energy components have become frequent targets due to the severe electrical crisis that Cuba is experiencing.
Among the most serious incidents is the theft of solar batteries at the Maternal Home of Santa Marta during the early hours of July 11, while five pregnant women and a nurse were inside the building.
On that occasion, the police took nearly nine hours to arrive at the scene.
On July 9, unidentified individuals stole the solar panels from the Maternal Home of Cárdenas, leaving the metal supports on the roof empty.
At the end of June, Matanzas reported eight substations out of service, four of which were disabled due to theft of dielectric oil, exacerbating blackouts lasting over 70 hours.
In July, neighbors in Cárdenas captured and restrained a suspected thief due to the lack of immediate police response, highlighting the population's growing frustration with insecurity.
