The actress Heydy González turned to shared memories to bid farewell to her colleague and friend Paula Alí, who passed away this Monday at the age of 90 in Havana.
González posted on Instagram a video of a scene from the comedy show "Punto G", in which both appear together in an emotional tribute to Paula.
In the recording, the characters of Hidroelia —played by Heydy— and Doctor Rosa Matriz —a role made famous by Paula Alí— are seen in one of the comedic scenes that made "Punto G" the most popular television show in Cuba in 2005. The camaraderie between the two actresses, evident in every exchange of lines, captures the artistic bond that connected them for years.
Heydy González's tribute to Paula came just hours after the news of her passing and immediately resonated with the followers of both actresses.
The death of Paula Alí at the age of 90 shocked the Cuban artistic community. The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) confirmed her passing on their Facebook account, bidding farewell to her as "one of the most popular and beloved artists among the Cuban people."
"With Paula Alí, an essential interpreter of the Cuban scene is gone, whose work will remain in the heartfelt memory of our people and in the history of the performing and audiovisual arts of the country," emphasized the UNEAC.
Paula Alí had received the 2026 National Television Award just three weeks before her death, unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of the Institute of Information and Social Communication. The award, the highest honor in Cuban television, was given in recognition of more than sixty years of her career in television, film, and theater.
Her career included more than 30 films at ICAIC —among them Waiting List, The Horn of Abundance and Letters from the Park— as well as soap operas such as In Love with the Sea and The Children of Pandora. In 2003, she won the Best Actress Award at the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival for the film Nothing, directed by Juan Carlos Cremata.
In January 2026, she celebrated her 90th birthday with a tribute on the Al Mediodía program of state television, surrounded by the affection of the audience that has followed her for decades.
