The actress Iris Pérez, wife of actor Omar Alí and a close relative of Paula Alí, expressed her gratitude this Monday for the many displays of affection the family has received following the passing of the beloved Cuban performer, who died at the age of 90.
From Havana, Pérez shared an emotional message on Facebook accompanied by a black and white photograph of the actress, in which she highlighted the deep bond that the public has always maintained with one of the most beloved figures in Cuban television and theater.
"We know that this community has loved her deeply and that her loss feels like that of a close family member. How beautiful her time on earth was, and what a great legacy of love she has left us. Thank God for having shared her with us. Thank you for so much love on behalf of her family and friends," she wrote.
Iris Pérez is married to Omar Alí, the nephew of the actress, and over the past few years, they have shared not only family time with Paula Alí but also numerous moments related to her artistic life.
The post received dozens of condolence messages from fans, colleagues, and admirers, who remembered the actress for her simplicity, charisma, and the warmth she conveyed on stage and screen for over six decades.
The death of Paula Alí sparked a significant reaction both within and outside the Cuban cultural sphere. One of the first tributes came from actor Luis Silva, known for his portrayal of Pánfilo in Vivir del Cuento, whose message on social media moved thousands of followers.
The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) also expressed its regret over the passing and emphasized that the actress left "an especially endearing mark in comedy," thanks to the naturalness, professionalism, and charisma that defined her extensive career.
Born on January 26, 1936, in Candelaria, now part of the Artemisa province, Paula Alí began her artistic career in 1959 and built a remarkable journey of over six decades in Cuban television, theater, and film.
His passing occurred just three weeks after receiving the National Television Award 2026, the highest honor in that medium in Cuba, awarded unanimously in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to the arts.
Earlier this year, the actress celebrated her 90th birthday on the show Al Mediodía, surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues, including Iris Pérez and Omar Alí, in what turned out to be one of her last public appearances.
In her official farewell, the UNEAC summarized the artist's legacy with a phrase that has been widely shared since the news broke:
"With Paula Alí, an indispensable performer of the Cuban scene is lost, whose work will remain in the emotional memory of our people and in the history of the performing and audiovisual arts of the country."
