opens this Tuesday, August 4, with a mixed outlook: the dollar remains unchanged, the euro slightly declines, and the MLC rises a bit.

At 10:00 a.m. (Cuban local time), the dollar remains pegged at 673 Cuban pesos, the euro slightly declines to 784 pesos, and the MLC shows a slight increase to 482 pesos, although this last figure should be taken as indicative due to the low volume of transactions that supports it.

Summary of exchange rates

  • Exchange rate of the USD to CUP: 673 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 784 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 482 CUP (indicative value).

The dollar remains unchanged

The US dollar is currently trading at 673 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, which is exactly the same value as recorded on the previous day.

The American dollar thus records another session without fluctuations and maintains the same exchange rate as it did seven days ago.

Exchange Rate Evolution

On the monthly horizon, the dollar is 12.5 pesos above its level from 30 days ago, an increase of 1.9%, although this comparison should be read with caution, as it may partly reflect methodological adjustments of the index.

In the last 30 days, the greenback has fluctuated between a low of 655 CUP and a high of 675 CUP.

It continues to set the pace of the informal market in a context of structural currency scarcity.

The euro is experiencing a slight decline

This Tuesday, the euro is trading at 784 Cuban pesos (CUP), representing a decline of 3.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it was at 787 CUP.

The downtrend is also evident in the weekly outlook: seven days ago, the euro was trading at 788 CUP, four pesos above the current level.

Despite this setback, the euro has gained 31.5 pesos compared to its price 30 days ago - when it was at 752 CUP - a rise of 4.2%, although this monthly variation may also reflect adjustments in the index methodology.

In the last month, the euro has fluctuated between a low of 745 CUP and a high of 790 CUP.

It surpasses the dollar by 111 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC, indicative value

The MLC opens on this Tuesday at around 482 Cuban pesos (CUP), 1.5 pesos above the value recorded in the previous session.

However, this data should be taken with caution: the digital currency has a low volume of transactions during this time frame, so its quotation is indicative.

In the weekly comparison, the MLC has decreased by three pesos compared to seven days ago, when it was at 485 CUP.

In the last month, the Freely Convertible Currency has fluctuated between a low of 425 CUP and a high of 543 CUP. Having no physical existence, its use is limited to state-owned businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

The gap with the official rate

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), set today at 615 CUP per dollar and 708 CUP per euro, remains far below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

The difference amounts to 58 pesos in the case of the dollar and 76 pesos in the case of the euro.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the real demand for foreign currency from the population.

In the last month, the official exchange rate of the dollar has climbed from 585 to 615 CUP, and that of the euro from 670 to 708 CUP, yet this adjustment has not closed the gap with the parallel market.

In a context of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly affects internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The demand for dollars and euros remains high among those looking to protect their savings from the depreciation of the peso, emigrate, import goods, or make purchases in the private sector.

    Methodology

The CiberCuba Exchange Rate is an index of the Cuban informal market created from the automated analysis of thousands of currency trading posts in Telegram and Facebook groups.

The calculation dismisses atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction based on its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
