The 21-year-old Cuban right-handed pitcher Jan Ewing Cabrera has been promoted to Palm Beach (Class A) by the St. Louis Cardinals organization, as journalist Francys Romero reported this Tuesday.
The promotion comes as a reward for a solid season in the Florida Complex League, where the pitcher from Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara, recorded a record of 2-4, an ERA of 3.12, 42.2 innings pitched, and 46 strikeouts, an average of over one strikeout per inning.
Cabrera signed with the Cardinals on December 10, 2024, for a reported bonus of 250,000 dollars, represented by Wasserman, after attracting interest from approximately seven Major League organizations.
Before finalizing that agreement, the young pitcher showcased his talents for scouts at the Yuan Pino Academy in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in September 2024, where his fastball exceeding 90 miles per hour and his potential as a starter caught the recruiters' attention.
His journey within the St. Louis system began in the Dominican Summer League in 2025, where he posted a record of 3-1, an ERA of 3.93, with 36.2 innings pitched and 32 strikeouts. In 2026, he continued his progress in the Florida Complex League with even more dominant numbers, including a stretch of 1.32 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 13.2 innings over four starts in May.
In Cuba, Cabrera had joined the national U-18 team for the 2022 Pan American Championship and was part of the Villa Clara roster for the 63rd National Series, where he made two starts before emigrating.
Palm Beach represents the second level in the development pyramid of the Cardinals, which continues with Peoria (Class A+), Springfield (Double A), and Memphis (Triple A). At 21 years old, Cabrera's progress is considered normal for an international prospect signed at the end of 2024.
The rise makes him one of the most advanced Cuban prospects within the St. Louis organization, following in the footsteps of infielder César Prieto, who made it to the Major Leagues with the Cardinals in May 2026 after excelling in Triple-A Memphis.
With an eye on continuing to rise through the ranks, Cabrera faces the most demanding challenge of his young professional career in Palm Beach.
