Panama is searching for the family of a Cuban man found dead almost ten months ago: He only had his passport

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Panama requested assistance on Tuesday to locate the relatives of Liban Silva Díaz, a 45-year-old Cuban citizen who was found dead in Panama City nearly ten months ago, and whose body remains unclaimed.

According to a report by Telemetro, the case dates back to October 8, 2025, when the Primary Care Section of the Fourth Subregion of Parque Lefevre, Río Abajo, and Pueblo Nuevo went to the district of Pueblo Nuevo after receiving a report of a corpse.

During the inspection of the site, authorities found a Cuban passport in one of the deceased's pockets, the only document that allowed them to identify him as Liban Silva Díaz.

However, despite the time that has passed since the discovery, the authorities have not been able to locate any family members or close friends of the Cuban, prompting them to make the case public in the hope of obtaining information that would allow them to reach out to his loved ones.

The investigation remains open for the alleged commission of a crime against life and personal integrity, which suggests that authorities do not rule out the possibility that Silva Díaz may have been a victim of a crime.

As part of the announcement, the Prosecutor's Office released an official notice accompanied by a black and white photograph of the deceased. They also detailed his physical characteristics: he had a dark complexion, a slim build, short black hair, and a beard.

The situation reflects a common reality among many migrants who embark on their journey alone or who, over time, lose contact with their relatives in Cuba or other countries. In such cases, identifying and locating their loved ones often becomes a complex process when a tragedy occurs.

Although the migration flow of Cubans through Panama drastically fell in 2025 due to new immigration policies and the deportation agreements implemented in the region, hundreds of nationals remain scattered across various countries, often without close family networks.

The Attorney General's Office of the Nation has asked anyone who knows the relatives of Liban Silva Díaz or who can provide information about them to contact the Primary Care Section in Parque Lefevre, Río Abajo, and Pueblo Nuevo at the phone numbers 524-9380 and 524-9381.
