It remains unchanged compared to the previous day and also compared to seven days ago, reflecting a notable stability in the US dollar.
Exchange Rate Evolution
In the last month, the dollar has risen by only 2.5 pesos from the 670 CUP of 30 days ago, although this comparison may partly reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index.
In that period, the maximum recorded was 675 pesos and the minimum was 655 pesos.
The demand for dollars remains high among those looking to protect their savings from the depreciation of the peso.
The euro, with a slight increase
The euro is trading at 784 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying price of 777 and a selling price of 790 pesos.
This represents an increase of one peso compared to the previous day, when it was at 783 pesos.
In the last week, the euro has dropped 1.5 pesos from 785 CUP seven days ago.
However, the monthly trend of the European currency is distinctly upward: 30 days ago, the euro was exchanged at 751 pesos, representing a increase of 33 pesos, or 4.4% more, although this change may also reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index.
In the last month, the euro has fluctuated between a high of 790 and a low of 745 pesos.
It is stated as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 111 pesos.
The MLC is declining with limited data
The MLC is around 446 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a purchase price of 432 and a selling price of 460 pesos.
This value is indicative, as the volume of transactions recorded during this time frame is limited and does not allow for an estimation as solid as that of the dollar or the euro.
Regarding the previous day, the MLC drops four pesos from the 450 CUP of yesterday.
In the last week, the decline has been more pronounced: seven days ago it was exchanged at 475 pesos, indicating a drop of 29 pesos, a 6.1% decrease.
In the last month, the accumulated decline is 34 pesos from the 480 CUP of 30 days ago.
Without physical existence, its use is limited to the state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.
The gap with the official rate
The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 618 CUP per dollar and 713 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.
In the last month, the official dollar has risen from 589 to 618 CUP, and the official euro has increased from 672 to 713 CUP: a surge that has not managed to close the gap with the parallel market.
Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and does not meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population.
The difference between both markets exceeds 55 pesos in the case of the dollar and 71 pesos in the case of the euro.
