The Cuban content creator Yai Savón addressed the leader Miguel Díaz-Canel in a video posted on Facebook, where she claims that her neighborhood has been without electricity for four days, without water for 15 days, and everyone’s food is spoiled due to the blackouts.
Savón is a Cuban mother from the municipality of La Lisa, in Havana. She began her message with a direct question for the leader and the rest of the regime officials: "You shamelessly say: 'Hold on.' Hold on to what, my brother? Hold on to what?"
The woman described her family's situation in stark terms: "I have three small children. I don't have any food to give them because it has spoiled. I don't have a rechargeable fan to provide some air because there is no electricity. There is also no water."
The complaint directly targets the official discourse of "creative resistance" that Díaz-Canel has repeated throughout his term, even after admitting in June that "creative resistance is no longer enough".
Savón also pointed out an alleged inequality between neighboring municipalities: "In Marianao, there is electricity all day, and in La Lisa, not even for an hour. We have been without electricity for four days and without water for about fifteen days."
He denounced that the crisis destroys any possibility of livelihood: "If people want to sell a durofrío to feed their children, they cannot do so because there is no electricity."
At the end of the video, Savón urged the leader to acknowledge his failure: "Just give it up already, my brother! Just give it up. If you don't have it, find a white sweater, a white flag, and get it out now."
He also accused the regime of waging a "psychological war" against the population. "They are killing us little by little, they are finishing us off."
The video was published after Cuba set a new record for electrical deficit by surpassing 2,411 MW of impact. Between August 2 and 4, the national electrical system collapsed twice in less than 24 hours. These were the sixth and seventh total collapses of the year.
La Lisa has a recent history of severe impact from power outages. In July, its residents had already protested in front of the municipal headquarters of the Communist Party after more than 50 consecutive hours without electricity or water.
The comments on Savón's video reflect massive support. One follower wrote: "The resistance they always talk about is just buying time to exterminate the people, with a brutal psychological torture never before seen." Another was more direct: "I support you, Cuban mothers can no longer endure this."
