The dollar started this Saturday unchanged in the Cuban informal market, while the euro fell again. The U.S. currency has an average value of 673 CUP, the euro stands at 782 CUP, and the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) has risen slightly to 449 CUP, although this last figure should be viewed with caution due to the low volume of transactions.
The shows that the dollar remains exactly the same as yesterday's value. The euro, on its part, decreases by 1.5 CUP, equivalent to 0.2%, while the MLC gains 3 CUP, or 0.7%.
In the buying and selling operations, the dollar is priced at 670 CUP for buying and 675 CUP for selling this Saturday. The euro is trading between 774 CUP for buying and 790 CUP for selling, while the MLC is around 437 CUP for buying and 461 CUP for selling.
The dollar has been stagnant for a week
The stability of the dollar is not just a one-day phenomenon. A week ago, it was also at 673 CUP, meaning it hasn't moved up or down during that time. Looking back a month, the change is minor: it has increased by 2.5 CUP, just 0.4%.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The euro is struggling to keep pace. Seven days ago it was at 785 CUP and now it is at 782 CUP, a loss of 3 CUP, equivalent to 0.4%. Nevertheless, compared to 30 days ago, it remains 22 CUP higher, an increase of 2.9%.
The MLC offers a different picture. Although this Saturday it rises compared to yesterday, it is still 23 CUP below the 472 CUP it marked a week ago, a drop of 4.9%. Compared to 30 days ago, it barely loses 1 CUP, a 0.2% decline.
This is how the exchange rates have moved in the last month
The dollar has had a minimum of 655 CUP and a maximum of 675 CUP over the last 30 days. The euro has fluctuated between 745 and 790 CUP, while the MLC has ranged between 425 and 496 CUP.
The photograph left by Saturday's opening is quite clear: the dollar remains stable, the euro loses some strength, and the MLC tries to regain ground after a much weaker week. In the case of the latter, its current value is indicative due to the limited available data in this range.
And how do they compare to the official rate?
The official rate of the Central Bank of Cuba for Segment III, effective for the public this Saturday, sets the dollar at 621 CUP and the euro at 717 CUP. The MLC does not have a comparable official rate.
There have also been movements there over the last month. The official dollar rose from 589 to 621 CUP, while the euro increased from 672 to 717 CUP. These values correspond, respectively, to the official minimums and maximums recorded during that period.
