A 24-year-old Cuban, known on social media as El Burla, turned the purchase of a simple bottle of oil into a parody of self-help videos: after "many years of sacrifice," he was finally able to acquire the product and even a safe to keep it secure.
“Hello, you can call me El Burla. I'm twenty-four years old and I was able to buy my first bottle of oil,” the young man begins saying in a video posted on Instagram, accompanied by an equally ironic caption: “I Feel Blessed.”
With absolute seriousness, El Burla presents the purchase as if it were one of the greatest achievements of his life.
"It was a tough journey filled with many years of sacrifice, but it was a goal I set for myself at an early age, and I managed to achieve it," she assures.
But the real punchline comes seconds later, when he shows where he plans to store his prized acquisition.
"It also allowed me to gather the money over the past few years to buy a safe to securely store my bottle of oil," he explains.
The exaggeration continues when he reveals his plans for managing it: he intends to consume it "between 2027 and 2040," meaning he aims to make the bottle last for 13 years.
And just like someone who has just bought a house, a car, or achieved a financial goal after years of hard work, it ultimately leaves a message of motivation for those still pursuing their own objectives.
"And with this, I want to tell you to fight for your dreams," he concludes.
The post exceeded 14,000 "likes" and garnered over 800 comments, becoming another one of the videos that have found humor as a way to portray the uncontrollable price of oil in Cuba.
Although the video deliberately takes the situation to the absurd, the reality that underpins the joke is much less amusing.
In recent weeks, oil has become one of the basic goods that raises the most concern among Cuban families due to its scarcity and high price.
