At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, the closes the day this Thursday, August 13, 2026, with a note of widespread stability.

The US dollar and the euro ended the day unchanged from the previous session, while the MLC recorded a minimal movement that, given the limited volume of available data, should be considered as a reference value.

The U.S. dollar is trading at 665 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this session, with a buying price around 660 CUP and a selling price of about 670 CUP. It remains unchanged from the previous day.

In the weekly comparison, however, the currency has accumulated a decline of 8 pesos compared to the 673 CUP from seven days ago, representing a drop of 1.1%. In relation to 30 days ago, when it was at 655 CUP, the dollar has gained 10 pesos, although this month-to-month comparison may partly reflect adjustments in the index methodology.

In the last four weeks, the US dollar has fluctuated between a low of 655 CUP and a high of 675 CUP. It continues to set the tone for the informal market amidst a context of structural currency scarcity.

The euro closes the day at 760 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying range at 750 CUP and selling at 770 CUP. It remains unchanged compared to the previous session. Weekly, the European currency has fallen by 25 pesos from 785 CUP a week ago, a decline of 3.2%. Compared to 30 days ago, when it was priced at 755 CUP, the euro has gained 5 pesos, though this difference should be interpreted cautiously as it may include methodological adjustments. Over the last month, the euro has hit a low of 753 CUP and a high of 790 CUP. It exceeds the dollar by 95 pesos, reinforcing its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC is closing around 454 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying rate of 447 CUP and a selling rate of 461 CUP. It shows a variation of +1 peso compared to the previous day, although this figure should be regarded as indicative due to the low volume of transactions recorded during this time period. In the weekly comparison, the MLC has risen by 5.5 pesos from the 449 CUP recorded seven days ago. Compared to 30 days ago, when it was at 486 CUP, it has experienced a decline of 31.5 pesos, although this month-to-month comparison may reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index. Over the past four weeks, it has fluctuated between a minimum of 413 CUP and a maximum of 496 CUP. With no physical existence, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 665 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 760 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 454 CUP (indicative value, few data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is set at 624 CUP per dollar and 720 CUP per euro, which remains well below the rates that actually prevail in the everyday informal currency market.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible currency mechanism, its official rate remains quite distant from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population. In the last month, the official dollar has risen from 592 to 624 CUP, and the euro from 674 to 720 CUP, but the gap with the parallel market remains wide: over 40 pesos in the case of the dollar and nearly 40 pesos for the euro.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the informal Cuban market created through the automated analysis of thousands of currency buy-sell postings in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation excludes atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction according to its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
