At 8:00 PM, Cuban local time, wraps up this Friday, August 14, 2026, with a slight decline in the dollar and stability in the euro.

The day's balance confirms a gradual cooling of the major foreign currencies on the street, in a week marked by accumulated declines in all benchmark currencies.

The US dollar closes the day with an average value of 664 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying rate of 660 CUP and a selling rate of 668 CUP. This represents a decline of one peso compared to the previous day, when it was quoted at an average of 665 CUP.

The weekly trend is more pronounced: seven days ago, the dollar was exchanged at 673 CUP, which represents a cumulative drop of 8.5 pesos over the past week, equivalent to a decline of 1.3%.

Exchange Rate Evolution

Compared to 30 days ago, when the average value was 655 CUP, the US dollar has risen by 9 pesos. However, this comparison should be taken with caution, as it may reflect methodological adjustments in the index in addition to the actual market movement.

In the past month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 655 CUP and a high of 675 CUP. It continues to gauge the informal market in a context of structural currency shortages.

The euro closes unchanged compared to the previous session, with an average value of 760 Cuban pesos (CUP), buying at 750 CUP and selling at 770 CUP.

Although the day ends flat compared to yesterday, the euro has seen a significant decline over the week: seven days ago it was trading at 783 CUP, which represents a drop of 23 pesos in a week, a decrease of 2.9%.

In the monthly outlook, the euro is positioned just 5 pesos above the 755 CUP from 30 days ago, with a high of 790 CUP and a low of 755 CUP during that period. It surpasses the dollar by 96 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC closes the day with an indicative average value of 454 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a purchase rate at 429 CUP and a sale rate at 479 CUP. The available data for this range is limited, so the figure should be regarded with caution.

Regarding the previous day, the average value remains unchanged. In the weekly comparison, the MLC increases by just 1.5 pesos compared to the 453 CUP from seven days ago.

In 30 days, the decline is more noticeable: from 481 CUP a month ago to the current 454, a drop of 26.5 pesos, although this change may partly reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index.

In the last month, it has fluctuated between a minimum of 413 CUP and a maximum of 496 CUP. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 664 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 760 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 454 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III) is set at 624 CUP per dollar and 720 CUP per euro, which remains significantly below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible currency exchange mechanism, its official rate remains very distant from that of the informal market and fails to meet the real demand for foreign currency from the population.

The gap between the official and informal exchange rates stands at 40 pesos for the dollar and 40 pesos for the euro this Friday, a difference that directly penalizes those who rely on the parallel market for their daily transactions.

In a context of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the Cuban informal market created through the automated analysis of thousands of currency exchange listings on Telegram and Facebook groups.

The calculation eliminates atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each operation based on its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated multiple times a day.
