A young Cuban identified on TikTok as @rosym_02 (Rosy) recorded one of the most emotional moments a family separated by emigration can experience: her surprise arrival in Cuba after four years without seeing her mother.
In the description of the video published on Monday night, Rosy wrote: "My surprise arrival to my mom after 4 years. I love you, mom."
The 57-second clip shows the young woman walking along the sidewalk leading to her home, her voice trembling and her eyes already filled with tears as she barely utters the word "mommy."
What follows is the embrace: the two women merge in tears in a moment that will be etched in time forever.
In the background, "Te esperé" plays, a song whose lyrics seem written for moments like this: "I waited for you, I felt like I was dying / I waited for you, like the moon waits for the day / I tried, but life went on / I waited for you, but time healed the wound."
The video garnered over 141,500 views and nearly 9,500 likes in less than two days, becoming another viral testament to the pain caused by Cuban emigration.
Rosy's reunion is not an isolated case. So far in 2026, dozens of similar videos have been recorded on TikTok: Cubans from the diaspora returning to the island without warning and capturing the moment they embrace their mothers, fathers, or children after years apart.
Among the most striking stories of this year is that of a Cuban who surprised her mother on her birthday after four years without seeing her, and that of a young woman who embraced her father after 17 years apart.
The second verse of the song that accompanies the video summarizes the feelings of someone returning after a long time: "When you find love / You forget everything you've experienced / Fear no longer holds you back / Suddenly, nothing has been lost."
