The two horses stolen from the acrobat girls Mayumi and Jennifer, from Colón, Matanzas, were recovered alive after two days of intense searching.
The announcement was made by the page of Facebook Rodeo Cubano, sparking a wave of celebration on social media. The animals had been stolen during the night of Friday, August 21, in that town in Matanzas, where both minors are part of the equestrian community associated with the Colón Fair and Rodeo.
The horses were trained to perform acrobatics in shows, giving them an artistic and sentimental value that went far beyond their economic worth.
“Girls' horses are back! They are alive and have returned home!” proclaimed Rodeo Cubano in their post, which garnered over 265,000 views and nearly 10,500 reactions in just a few hours.
The announcement highlighted the decisive role of the members of the Rodeo and the Colón Fair, who never abandoned the search at any moment.
"Under the sun, the rain, and the dew, they remained at the foot of the canyon until they found them," the message stated, which also conveyed the appreciation of the two girls to those who shared the alert and provided information.
A second post from Rodeo Cubano celebrated the conclusion with the community: "After two days of anxiety, they returned home safe and sound. Today the Feria de Colón celebrates alongside Mayumi and Jennifer."
During the search, the same page had issued an urgent call to ranchers, riders, and enthusiasts across Cuba to help locate the animals, offering a reward whose amount was not specified. The most poignant message of that campaign summed up what was at stake: "Return their horses. Don't take away their dreams."
The case fits into a documented pattern of horse thefts in Cuba that has worsened with the economic and food crisis. The animals are often secretly slaughtered to sell their meat on the black market, due to the collapse of the food supply in the country.
The municipality of Colón has recent incidents on record: in May 2025, a man was arrested there after attempting to steal a horse and assaulting its owner.
Despite the relief of the outcome, Rodeo Cubano chose to conclude its announcement with a reflection that transcends the specific case: "This shows what a people can achieve when they come together wholeheartedly."
