A family with two minors lost their primary source of income after unknown individuals broke into their home in Havana during the early morning hours and stole the electric tricycle they used for work.
The affected individual, identified as María Macías, reported this Monday on Facebook that the thieves forced their way into her home, broke the locks and the bolt, and stole the vehicle.
«Today in the early morning, our tricycle was stolen; they broke in and destroyed all the locks and the Yale lock,» recounted in the public group «Clothing Sale in Havana».
The shared images show the damage to the entrance and several destroyed locks. Macías also posted photographs of the vehicle to aid in its identification: a turquoise electric tricycle with a red passenger cabin.
The woman explained that her eldest daughter discovered in the morning that someone had entered the home, a situation that caused her fear.
"You just left a family without their daily sustenance, you robbed a house where two minors live, my older daughter was afraid this morning when she saw her house open," she wrote in a message directed at the culprit.
Macías also lamented the deterioration of security and the violence among Cubans themselves amid the difficult situation the country is facing.
"Very sad what is happening in my nation, Cuban against Cuban, thefts, assaults. How is it possible that at a moment like this you choose to do evil," he questioned.
The loss of a vehicle of this type represents a significant economic blow. Electric tricycles have been advertised in Cuba for between 3,000 and 4,950 dollars, amounts that are beyond the reach of a large portion of the population.
In addition to becoming an alternative to the shortcomings of public transportation and the scarcity of fuel, these vehicles are used by many Cubans as a tool for work.
The thefts of electric tricycles have been reported in various provinces. At the beginning of August, a man was arrested in Guantánamo for the alleged theft of at least five of these vehicles.
In May, a man was killed during a robbery in Santiago de Cuba to steal his tricycle, while in June another victim reported the .
Social media has sometimes helped locate vehicles. In May, the police recovered a stolen tricycle in San Miguel del Padrón after it was spotted in a sales ad on Facebook.
The episode takes place against a backdrop of growing concern over insecurity in Cuba. The Cuban Observatory for Citizen Audit documented 2,833 crimes in 2025, which is a 115% increase compared to the previous year. Of these, 1,536 were thefts, according to their records.
Macías finally asked for help to spread the images and try to recover the vehicle on which his family depends financially.
"To my friends, to my brothers in Christ: pray for us and share this post," he concluded.
