After nearly two and a half months away, former adult film star Mia Khalifa returned to her kitchen, and she did so by preparing Cuban food.
The Lebanese-American media figure published a reel on her Instagram account in which she is seen slicing green plantains on a wooden board, with a bowl of glass and pieces of sautéed food visible beside her, in a modern kitchen with white cabinets.
"First meal I've cooked in 68 days, it's so good to be home," he wrote in the video description, making it clear that the preparation signified his return home after 68 days away, although he did not specify the reason for the long absence.
The video shows how to prepare Cuban picadillo, rice with beans, and fried plantains.
It is not the first time Khalifa has shown his affinity for this cuisine: throughout 2025 and 2026, he has published several reels dedicated to the food of the Cuban island, including one that features the text "Cuban food first".
The post generated an enthusiastic response among its followers, who filled the comments with expressions like "chef khalifa."
But Mia Khalifa's connection to Cuba goes far beyond the cooking pots. In July 2021, during the historic 11J protests in Cuba, she became a trending topic on the island by calling the leader Miguel Díaz-Canel "trash," and in a second video, she quickly added another even more direct term: "singao".
At that very moment, she also offered assistance to the Cuban people amid the repression unleashed by the regime against the demonstrators. When the official circles attempted to discredit her by suggesting she was acting on behalf of someone, she responded straightforwardly: "no government pays me."
Her stance of support for Cubans has not wavered over time. In October 2024, she publicly criticized Díaz-Canel again on social media, maintaining the same critical tone from previous years. Months later, in February 2025, she made headlines again with a viral gesture by displaying a dollar bill with the phrase "Free Cuba" handwritten on it, an image that circulated widely among Cubans both on the island and abroad.
Now, with a kitchen knife in hand and a green banana on the cutting board, Khalifa adds another chapter to his connection with Cuban culture, this time from the intimacy of his own kitchen and with the island's flavor as the main focus.
