The Bolivian deputy Edgar Zegarra, from the Libre alliance, alleged in a press conference that the G-2 might be operating in Bolivia to undermine the government of President Rodrigo Paz and prepare a coup d'état in the country for October.
The statements were made this Monday in the context of the scandal generated by the armed attack against the political operator Nadia Beller, which occurred on August 17 in front of a hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and the subsequent detention of presidential advisor Fernando Cerimedo as the main suspect.
Beller, formed with the Cuban G-2 according to Zegarra
The legislator directly linked Beller to the intelligence services of Havana and accused her of having traveled to Cuba to train with that apparatus.
"This lady has gone to Cuba, Mrs. Beller, to study with the Cuban Intelligence; she has been with Evo Morales, with Jeanine Áñez, with Luis Arce, and today with Rodrigo Paz; all of this is not a coincidence," she stated.
“I have serious allegations; there is a group called G2, a Cuban intelligence group that has staged plays in Bolivia,” he added.
According to Zegarra, this same group would have orchestrated previous episodes: "They have staged with mourning and pain the issue of the Hotel Las Américas in Santa Cruz, they have staged the issue of the self-attack by Evo Morales, the supposed coup d'état by Mr. Zúñiga."
The "smoke screen" and the plan for October
The deputy stated that the attack against Beller is a maneuver to distract the public while a larger conspiracy is being woven.
"Today they are creating a smokescreen to distract the Bolivian people. We need to investigate what this woman (Beller) has said, but this smokescreen is intended to start weaving a coup d'état in October, taking advantage of the people's discontent due to the government's failure to provide adequate responses to their needs," he detailed.
Zegarra directly pointed to the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) as the actor that would seek to capitalize on the crisis:
"The MAS wants to take advantage of the social upheaval to stage a coup in October. That is the reality. There is discontent in Bolivian society because the fundamental needs of the Bolivian people, their stomachs, and their gas expenses have not been addressed."
This discomfort is backed by figures: the Central Bank of Bolivia projects a 3.6% decline in GDP and an inflation rate of 9.22% for this year, exacerbated by more than fifty days of roadblocks advocated by sectors aligned with the MAS.
"An entire conspiracy"
Zegarra described the series of events as a coordinated operation: “This is the second act of the theatrical play to victimize Evo Morales; the MAS slanders, libels, and lies; this is all a collusion.”
The legislator also demanded transparency from the Executive regarding the role of Cerimedo, who was arrested on August 18 at the Viru Viru airport while attempting to fly to Buenos Aires and is facing 180 days of preventive detention for attempted femicide
"I ask the Executive Power to stop denying that Mr. Cerimedo was a personal advisor to the president. He has been, and we cannot hide that, which is why it is necessary for the president to speak out and clarify all of this to the Bolivian people."
Background of Cuban interference and request for international commission
Zegarra's allegations are not new. In April 2026, the same legislator had already warned about the interference of Cuba, Russia, Venezuela, and Iran in Bolivia and reported that Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo refused to provide a report on the activities of his diplomats in the country.
The background of Cuban presence in Bolivia includes the 2019 detention of four officials from Havana accused of funding protests in favor of Morales, and the departure of 725 Cuban collaborators amid espionage accusations that Cuba denied.
Zegarra additionally requested the arrival of an international commission to investigate the Cerimedo case and alleged acts of corruption within the Bolivian Executive. His claims about the G-2 and the supposed coup in October relate to political allegations that, to date, have not been supported by verifiable public evidence.
