The comedian Osvaldo Doimeadios sparked laughter and reflections among Cubans with a sketch of one of his most well-known characters, Margot, who shared with the audience how she was crowned Miss Cuba when she was young.
The reel, titled «Another Cuban Miss», features Margot in an alleged interview. It begins by describing beauty contests in the island's fields and concludes with a critique of the situation in the country, using double meaning.
Remembering her youth, Margot insists that she became the most well-known "miss" in her town. "I was serious, I was the serious miss of my village," she remarked.
From there, Doimeadios plays with the pronunciation of "miss seria" and "miseria" to transform the memories of that peculiar beauty queen into a satire of Cuban precariousness.
"They selected me, put me on a tractor bed, and paraded me around the town," she recounts. Margot recalls that she was on a board made of bagasse, greeting "like a beggar," while she was accompanied by "the whole entourage of the poor."
His reign was even honored. According to reports, a plaque was placed on the house where he was born with an inscription fitting of his title: "Here was born the misery of this people."
The sketch was published days after the final of the Miss Universe Cuba 2026 contest. The winner was the model Mia Dio, crowned on August 20 in Cutler Bay, Florida.
Amid the attention generated by this famous beauty contest, Doimeadios introduced its own "Cuban miss," although with a runway that is much closer to the reality of the island.
Margot's Auction
The most direct criticism comes at the end of the video, when Margot shares that she returned to the town and the man responsible for making the tombstones for the cemetery offered her one for free if she decided to move back there.
The response encapsulates the message of the sketch: "No, man, don't get it wrong, because misery will never die in this town; I will die elsewhere."
That phrase takes the joke of the "serious miss" to another dimension. Doimeadios doesn't need to abandon the character or turn the sketch into a speech: he employs double meaning to highlight a reality characterized by years of economic crisis, rising poverty, scarcity, and the deterioration of living conditions in Cuba.
Social media and theater are some of the main workspaces for the comedian since censorship removed him from Cuban television in 2025.
