A large deployment of law enforcement took over the gated community of Aquabella in northwest Hialeah for several hours on Tuesday afternoon, after authorities received reports of gunfire in the area, according to Telemundo 51 and other local Miami media.
The Hialeah Police confirmed that multiple individuals were detained —although the exact number has not been disclosed— and that two suspicious vehicles were found within the neighborhood, located at 13000 Northwest 97th Avenue.
The investigation remained active for several hours and, preliminarily, authorities indicated that no injured individuals were found.
A fight that ended in gunfire
According to NBC, it all began with a fistfight between two groups of young people in the vicinity of the community.
“Two groups of young people reportedly got into a fistfight, and the investigators tell me that at some point, two shots were supposedly fired”, explained reporter Gabrielle Arzola from Local 10, who was on the scene.
When the agents arrived at the scene, several groups dispersed into the interior of the residential complex, triggering a large-scale operation to locate the possible individuals involved.
Forty police units in a single corner
The scale of the deployment was remarkable. A reporter covering the operation on-site claimed to have counted approximately 40 law enforcement units at a single corner, not including the dozens that were operating within the residential complex.
In addition to the Hialeah Police, the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
The agents established a security perimeter, deployed canine units, and conducted searches for potential suspects related to the incident.
Videos captured with cell phones showed the moment when agents with their guns drawn subdued two individuals. One of the subjects fell to the ground while the police aimed their weapons at him, while another was seen lying on the pavement from a different angle.
Both were taken into custody minutes later.
Despite the detentions, no arrests had been formally made up to that point. According to information released from the scene, two individuals had been apprehended, but no official announcement of any arrests had been made yet.
School on lockdown and residents stranded
As a precautionary measure, the Miami-Dade County Public Schools ordered a temporary security lockdown at West Lakes Preparatory Academy, the campus located near Aquabella, according to reports from CBS Miami.
Several parents anxiously waited in the vicinity until they were finally allowed to pick up their children.
The situation also affected dozens of residents who, upon returning home after their workday, found all access completely blocked. The waits extended for more than two hours.
"All the entrances are closed... we've been waiting here for over two hours," said a resident, as reported by Telemundo 51.
Another person waiting at the entrance expressed their frustration: "I have an hour and a half, and nothing... it's not moving."
María Franco, a resident of Aquabella, summed up the collective frustration: "After a long day at work, having to wait two hours in line to get home is too much."
Residents were authorized to return to their homes shortly before 6:00 p.m.
Active investigation with no confirmed injuries
Meanwhile, the investigators conducted interviews and processed evidence at the scene to determine the level of involvement of each person involved.
A resident waiting at the entrance summarized what was circulating among the neighbors: "They say they are searching within Aquabella for the person responsible for all of this."
Yaisel, another resident of the complex, expressed relief despite the scare: "I was scared for the people living around, for my family. I knew that the Hialeah police would take care of it, so we feel safe."
The authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and the possible involvement of the detained individuals. Preliminarily, no injuries had been confirmed.
