A Boeing 767-300 freighter operating for Amazon Prime Air overran the runway this Sunday during landing at Miami International Airport (MIA) and ended up outside the airport area, where images from the scene showed flames and an intense column of black smoke.
In X, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as flight 7598 from 21 Air and confirmed that it overshot the runway after landing around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6th.
The plane had taken off from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, bound for Miami.
"Flight 7598 from 21 Air overshot the runway after landing at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m.," reported the FAA, which also confirmed that it will investigate the incident.
Images shared on social media and originally obtained by NBC 6 South Florida show the massive cargo plane halted beyond the runway's edge, with visible flames and a thick column of black smoke rising from the area.
"Oh my God!" one of the witnesses can be heard exclaiming as they observe the emergency.
Other videos show vehicles stopped in the vicinity while emergency teams worked at the scene. Despite the magnitude of the flames and smoke, the fuselage appeared to retain much of its structure in the initial images.
