A man was arrested in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, accused of attacking his ex-partner with a machete, a 44-year-old woman who remains hospitalized in serious condition and in danger of death.
The official profile Con Todos La Victoria reported this Sunday that the incident occurred in the Agramonte popular council and identified Ramón Armas Ricardo as the detained individual.
According to the report, the man was arrested by the police in a public area after the assault.
"According to reports, he inflicted three machete wounds on the victim, who remains in critical condition and is at risk of death," the profile stated.
Following his arrest, charges were brought against Armas, and he remains in custody at a police station, at the disposal of judicial authorities, according to the same source.
The report did not provide details about the circumstances leading up to the attack nor specified the exact charges filed against the detainee.
The episode represents another serious case of violence against a woman in Matanzas, a province where several incidents of this nature have come to light in recent months.
Precisely in Jagüey Grande, Marina "Marian" Pino Martínez, 23 years old and mother of two girls, was murdered in April, allegedly by her ex-partner.
The crime occurred in the town of San Bernardo and was confirmed as a femicide by independent gender observatories.
Most recently, at the end of August, two women had to be hospitalized after being attacked during a violent incident at El Tenis beach, in the city of Matanzas.
A man was arrested in connection with that assault.
These cases occur in a context of growing concern about violence against women in Cuba.
Just a few days after the beginning of September, Cuba reached 50 femicides so far in 2026, surpassing the total number recorded for the entire previous year.
The Gender Observatory of Alas Tensas (OGAT) confirmed two new crimes, bringing the annual count to this figure, one more than the 49 cases documented in 2025.
