A man was arrested in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, accused of attacking his ex-partner with a machete, a 44-year-old woman who remains hospitalized in serious condition and at risk of death.
The official profile Con Todos La Victoria reported this Sunday that the incident occurred in the Agramonte popular council and identified Ramón Armas Ricardo as the detained individual.
According to the report, the man was arrested by the police in a public place following the assault.
"According to reports, he struck the victim with three machete blows, who remains in serious condition and is in danger of death," the profile stated.
Following his arrest, Armas "was formally charged" and remains in custody at a police station, at the disposal of judicial authorities, according to the same source.
The report did not provide details about the circumstances leading up to the attack nor specified the exact charges brought against the detainee.
The incident represents another serious case of violence against a woman in Matanzas, a province where several incidents of this nature have come to light in recent months.
Precisely in Jagüey Grande, Marina "Marian" Pino Martínez, 23 years old and mother of two girls, was killed in April, allegedly by her ex-partner.
The crime occurred in the town of San Bernardo and has been confirmed as a femicide by independent gender observatories.
More recently, at the end of August, two women had to be hospitalized after being attacked during a violent incident at El Tenis beach in the city of Matanzas. A man was arrested in connection with this aggression.
These cases occur in a context of growing concern about violence against women in Cuba.
Just a few days after the start of September, Cuba has reached 50 femicides so far in 2026, surpassing the total number recorded throughout the entire previous year.
The Gender Observatory of Alas Tensas (OGAT) confirmed two new crimes, raising the annual total to that figure, one more than the 49 cases documented in 2025.
