The National Revolutionary Police (PNR) of Bayamo released the alleged attacker of two elderly individuals less than 24 hours after his transfer to a police unit.
The Facebook user Rosy Rosales, daughter of the victims, made a public complaint on social media. She identified the attacker as Abel Enrique Saborit García and indicated that he was initially detained at the Provincial Instruction Unit located at the exit of Las Tunas, in Bayamo, where he was supposed to remain for the corresponding legal process.
However, according to Rosy, the PNR specifically requested the transfer of the individual to the unit known as "La Tercera," located at the exit of Santiago de Cuba, from where he was released without any statement being taken or a formal investigation being opened.
The victims are Rosa Rosales Leyva, 59 years old, a professor at the University of Medical Sciences of Bayamo, and her husband Jorge Aguilera Reyes. The woman suffered a fracture in her face, along with bruises and visible injuries documented in photographs. The father presented a noticeably swollen left eye, visible in video call images shared by the family.
The police justified releasing the alleged attacker by stating that there was not enough evidence to keep the suspect in custody.
Rosy Rosales emphatically rejected that argument: "So for them, the injuries and attacks on my parents are not evidence of anything, nor are the statements from the witnesses who were present and came to testify considered evidence either."
In the aggravating circumstances of the case, the family points out that during the assault, there were two minors present who were in danger during the attack.
According to the report by Rosy Rosales, the alleged attacker has a history of 17 previous cases related to assaults, threats, and injuries.
The young woman directly held the head of "La Tercera," identified as Euqueni Vázquez Hidalgo, responsible for the release of Abel Enrique Saborit García.
"What was the urgency to transfer an aggressor from the Instruction Unit located near the exit of Las Tunas, where Abel Enrique Saborit García was situated and should remain? Or is the real culprit behind all this bribing you?" said the complainant.
An anonymous source revealed to the family that behind the release was the uncle of the alleged aggressor, Abel Saborit Guerrero, supposedly an agent of the DTI (Technical Investigation Directorate of the MININT). Rosy Rosales attached a screenshot as evidence, but did not disclose the name of the source.
"His uncle Abel Saborit Guerrero, who is an agent in the Technical Investigations Division of the MININT (DTI), is a crucial part of his freedom and protection," Rosales wrote and demanded a thorough investigation into all those involved.
Bayamo, the capital of Granma Province, has been the scene of multiple cases of violence in 2026, including femicides and serious assaults reported by independent media.
The PNR, for its part, is facing increasing citizen complaints regarding corruption and arbitrary actions. A few days prior to this complaint, the police announced a 24-hour hotline to receive complaints, amid a growing climate of pressure.
The report was amplified by the page "NiO Reporting a Crime," which published videos of the moment of the assault showing the arrest of the alleged attacker. The family also requests an investigation into whether there is a connection between the attack on the mother and a prior incident suffered by the father.
"I hold the police responsible for releasing my parents' attacker, named Abel Enrique Saborit García. Whatever happens to my parents, my children, and my relatives, I hold the police accountable," warned Rosy Rosales. The young woman announced that she would take the case "to the very end."
