The euro moved again this Monday in the Cuban informal market, ending the day once more close to 780 pesos, while the dollar hardly changed.
At 8:00 p.m., the U.S. dollar closed at 683 Cuban pesos (CUP), virtually the same level as the previous day. The greenback has been fluctuating little over the past few days, although it remains in a high range.
A week ago, it fluctuated around 678 CUP, and over the last 30 days, it has ranged between 663 and 684 CUP. For now, it neither drops significantly nor manages to make another significant leap.
The one that did give a little boost this Monday was the euro, which closed at 778 CUP, compared to the 775 from the day before.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The European currency now stands at just two pesos away from 780 CUP, a figure it has reached in the past month. During that time, its lowest value was 746 CUP.
The difference between the two main currencies remains significant: one euro currently costs about 95 pesos more than a dollar in the informal market.
The MLC (freely convertible currency), for its part, is appearing this Monday around 454 CUP. Its behavior remains much more unstable.
- 1 USD = 683 CUP
- 1 EUR = 778 CUP
- 1 MLC = 454 CUP
Meanwhile, the official rates of the Segment III of the Central Bank of Cuba remain below those handled between individuals: 640 CUP per dollar and 744 CUP per euro.
This creates a difference of 43 pesos for every dollar between the official rate and the informal rate, while for the euro the gap is around 34 pesos.
For now, the dollar seems to have taken a pause around 683 CUP. The euro, on the other hand, is once again approaching 780, raising the question of whether it will be able to surpass that barrier in the coming days.
