A man was arrested in the municipality of Songo-La Maya, Santiago de Cuba, following the discovery of a marijuana plantation in a home located in Yerba de Guinea, where authorities seized nearly 170 plants.
The official profile Héroes del Moncada reported this Tuesday on Facebook that the cultivation was located by a group of officials from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), after residents of the area alerted about the situation.
According to the publication, a citizen identified as responsible for the cultivation and maintenance of the plantation was arrested at the site, and approximately 170 plants were seized from him.
The report did not reveal the identity or age of the detainee, nor did it specify how long the cultivation had been operating, or whether there are other individuals being investigated in connection with the case.
The province of Santiago de Cuba reported several cases related to marijuana in 2025.
In the municipality of Songo-La Maya itself, but in May, a young man was arrested following the discovery of more than 2,000 marijuana plants in the locality of Salvador Rosales.
In that operation, other individuals allegedly associated with the harvesting and distribution of the drug were also arrested.
Two months earlier, the authorities had arrested another cultivator in the municipality of Tercer Frente who had about 200 plants and over 2,000 marijuana seeds in a mountainous area.
Another operation carried out in June, in Sigua, in the municipality of Santiago de Cuba, resulted in the arrest of a man who had over 19,000 seeds and around 950 marijuana plants in his home.
Additionally, in Santiago de Cuba, there have been trials officially designated as "exemplary", resulting in sentences of several years in prison for incidents related to marijuana and other substances.
