A Havana local named Delfín has become the new viral character on the streets of Havana thanks to a video posted by the Cuban content creator Camila Carballo on Instagram, where she introduces him as "the man with the most money in Cuba."
Delfín appears in the clip adorned with jewelry from head to toe: 55 necklaces around his neck, 40 bracelets on his wrists, and 10 rings on his fingers, all in silver.
His great ambition goes beyond being number one on the Island. "My dream is the world record in the Guinness, but I'm still 25 away, and they weigh too much," he confesses with a laugh during the interview.
Delfín himself acknowledges that carrying such a collection comes with its costs. Putting on all the bracelets and arranging the chains so that they don't get tangled takes him about an hour each morning, and cleaning them takes just as long.
That’s why she has a golden rule: she only shows her jewelry during the day. "I would never try it at night because they shine too much," she explains.
Regarding the origin of his collection, Delfín is succinct: "I have received gifts and I have saved." He does not disclose the total value of the pieces, although several commentators in the publication note that it consists of a significant amount of sterling silver.
Internet users wasted no time in giving it a nickname. The most popular one in the comments was "the lightning rod," a joke about the risk of attracting lightning with so much metal, which garnered 197 reactions.
Other users warned him: "Daddy, be careful with the thunder." Comparisons also emerged with Kendo Kaponi, the Puerto Rican reggaeton singer known precisely for his image filled with chains and jewelry.
Camila Carballo is one of the most active Cuban content creators documenting everyday life from Havana with spontaneous street interviews.
Among their previous publications is a video about Cubans fishing with condoms on the Malecón, which surpassed 260,000 views.
Delfín, for his part, joins a gallery of viral street characters from Havana, such as Papito the candy seller or the sadly deceased Pánfilo, figures who have accumulated millions of views on social media.
In the meantime, he continues to add pieces with his sights set on the Guinness Book. He needs 25 more chains to reach the goal he has set for himself, although he admits that the weight is beginning to be a problem, especially in the summer.
