The euro is gaining ground, and the dollar continues to approach 700 pesos

The informal currency market in Cuba opens this Thursday with new increases in the dollar and euro, while the Cuban peso continues to lose value against the major currencies.

At 10:00 a.m., local Cuban time, , the euro reaches 781 CUP, and the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) hovers around 466 CUP.

The dollar rises 1 peso compared to the previous day, when it was at 687 CUP. Although the daily movement is small, the trend of recent weeks remains upward.

Seven days ago, the US dollar was exchanging at 678 CUP, which means it has accumulated a rise of 10 pesos in a week. Compared to the 668 CUP from 30 days ago, the increase is 20 pesos.

Exchange Rate Evolution

During the last month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 663 CUP and the current 688 CUP, its highest level during this period and increasingly close to the 700 peso barrier.

The euro is experiencing a significant movement this Thursday. The European currency is valued at 781 CUP, which is about 3.5 pesos above the 778 CUP from the previous day.

In one week, it has gained 8 pesos, from 773 CUP, while in comparison to 30 days ago, it has accumulated an increase of 13.5 pesos. During that time, the euro has fluctuated between a minimum of 746 CUP and the current level of 781 CUP.

Although 781 CUP represents the highest value of the euro in the last 30 days, it does not constitute a historical record. The European currency also remains clearly above the dollar, with a current difference of 93 pesos.

For its part, the MLC appears around 466 CUP, about 4.5 pesos more than the previous day, when it was at 462 CUP.

However, the behavior of the MLC remains much more unstable. A week ago it was at 479 CUP and over the past 30 days it has fluctuated between 408 and 529 CUP.

The official rates of the Central Bank of Cuba for Segment III have also continued to rise, but they remain below those in the informal market.

This Thursday, the official rate for the dollar is 651 CUP, compared to 688 CUP in the informal market, a difference of 37 pesos. For the euro, the official rate is 758 CUP, 23 pesos below the 781 CUP in the informal market.

A month ago, the official dollar was at 624 CUP and the euro at 721 CUP. Since then, they have risen to 651 and 758 CUP, respectively, although they still remain below the informal rates.
